Discussion: Clinton Campaign Defends Criticism Of Sanders' Health Care Proposal

Discussion for article #244656

Is anyone really suprised HRC’s play-nice facade was cast away the moment she stopped being the presumptive nominee?

Of course now that the gloves are off- the glove are off.

Well Sanders should actually put out more information if he want’s to claim he wants to go single payer and dismantle ACA. Though getting that through congress is pretty much not going to happen, and he would also have to change a ton of peoples opinion on the subject since even ACA still has a negative view by people even though it has been shown to be helping improve healthcare.

So disingenuous…

of course there would be across the board tax increases… to replace the insurance premiums that go away!

the $12k paid out for premiums between my employers cost on my contributions already could be paid in taxes to a more efficient system.

Sure, you could say my tax burden increased significantly and you would be technically correct, but intelectually dishonest.

HRC is playing into GOP BS talking points to win a democratic primary. And it’s democrats she is convincing to parrot GOP BS.

Sure, she is better than a repub, but I think in this way she sets back the party’s gains as far as accepting that progessive policies can work. This could kill the idea for single payer for another 25 yrs.

This is terrible as Both the successes and imperfections of the ACA show that Single payer is the next logical step to build on successes and improve imperfections.

Republicans must be excited to see a democrat trying to destroy a progressive ideal. The worst thing our party can do is to do their 1%we, corporate dirty work for them.

I don’t have any problem with rough-and-tumble politics. HRC’s problem here is that no one has more credibility on domestic policy questions like this than Bernie Sanders.

Attacks like this simply highlight her weakness in this area and garner a collective eye-roll from people who keep up with these kinds of issues.

I think the smart play here would be to continue to focus on her foreign policy chops.

Yep, and I find myself reminded of the negative aspects of the Clinton’s that were so stark in 2008 that, in my mind, had faded…

My guess is many primary supporters of Obama in 2008 are starting see/feel this too. I fear it will be worse and more desperate as this election is likely the last chance she has…

It’s bullshit to even be running on trying to take down ACA and put into place single payer. Improve ACA, expand it but talk about scrapping it for something else is only going to add fuel to the GOP efforts to harm ACA.

How exactly does Sanders expect to get single payer? We are on what number of attempts by the GOP to repel the ACA and you think he is going to get elected and somehow get single payer passed? It’s not being pragmatic and saying that type of thing might play better in the primary’s but it wouldnt work as well in the general. Hillary has to think about the winning the general election.

I was 100 percent behind Obama in 2008, and i am 100 percent behind Clinton in 2016. I want her to continue Obama’s legacy and add onto it, i see her as being capable of doing that, Sanders… not so much.

Yes, but it’s not the next logical step right now. There is zero chance single payer gets passed by a Republican congress. Leading people on to pretend there is will lead to the same disenchantment Obama initially caused in his first term.

Like it or not, the ACA is here to stay. Bernie can call for a “revolution”, but our system of government makes it damn near impossible to take place.

Sanders talks a lot about his domestic policies which play well in the primary’s but maybe not so well in the general but the capability of him getting any of it done is pretty lacking.

Sigh he would only take away ACA if he could get single payer passed. You are telling me you wouldn’t rather have single payer? This entire attack by Clinton is bloody absurd.

The capability of any Democratic President getting anything progressive done with a Republican Congress is nigh on impossible.

Which he can’t, so why is he attacking ACA rather then suggesting ways to make it better?

Obama got things done even with them trying to block him every step. and maybe Dem’s can win back the house or at least make it closer, but trying to pass single payer wouldnt even work if Dem’s had control of both house and senate as the votes are just not there.

OMG he is not attacking ACA he is just saying there is something better out there and there is.

How is saying you want to repel and replace (notice GOP wording there) not attacking it?

Here’s what Hillary is “defending”:
Hillary/Obamacare is not “a step in the direction” of single payer universal health care of Medicare-for-all. It is a step backwards.
Hillary/Obamacare uses federal law against us, favors corporations and hinders true reform. Here’s why:
Hillary/Obamacare continues the system that is twice as costly as some in the developed world and more costly than all - Hillary/Obamacare achieves this through the force of federal law.
Hillary/Obamacare continues the system that is 23rd in results, 23rd in effectiveness – Hillary/Obamacare achieves maintains our poor system through the force of federal law.
Hillary/Obamacare puts more money and more profits into the pockets of the private for-profit insurance industry at the expense of premium payers and tax payers – Hillary/Obamacare achieves this through the force of federal law.
Hillary/Obamacare guarantees profits to the private for-profit insurance industry for four years – Hillary/Obamacare achieves this through the force of federal law.
Hillary/Obamacare guarantees an overhead of 20% to the private for-profit insurers, while Medicare operates on 4% - Hillary/Obamacare achieves this through the force of federal law.
Hillary/Obamacare overhead can be used for exorbitant CEO salaries, executive “bonuses”, sky boxes in NFL stadiums, “marketing”, “sales”, to pay lobbyists and to contribute to ‘sympathetic candidates’, who will make sure that real health care reform never happens.
Under Hillary/Obamacare your mandated premiums and your tax payer subsidies go to private for-profit insurers to guarantee their overhead - and profits.
Federal law should be used to provide to promote the general welfare, not to line the pockets of private for-profit insurers.
We should not support candidates who use the force of federal law to fatten the bottom lines of corporations to the detriment of American families.
Republicans cannot repeal Obamacare, because Obamacare is their notion of the perfect crony capitalist legislation, designed by the Right Wing Heritage Foundation, first introduced nationally by eleven Republican Senators in the early 1990s and first signed by Republican Governor, Mitt Romney. It makes people buy a private for-profit product, it guarantees the private for-profits a profit, it allows private for-profit insurers to pocket 20% of your premium and not use it for health care services at all and you probably noticed recently you will pay more and higher co-pays and have more and higher deductibles so the private for-profits can make even more money by avoiding the cost of you health care. Cool, eh.
PS Very few companies exceeded the medical loss ratio; they were mostly in California with companies that sold individual policies.

They weren’t there in '08. If the Dems take back control you really don’t know or not if the votes aren’t there.

Unless we have another 9/11 level event, this election will be about Domestic policy.

I think it serves HRC’s long term interests better to keep the competition relatively friendly. But if she listens to the Debbie Wasserman Shultz element of her campaign she’ll find the blood bath of the general election extended to the primary.

Let’s not kid ourselves here; the general election for HRC will look just like this-

White Water. Monica Lewinski. Impeachment. Benghazi. White Water. Monica Lewinski. Impeachment. Benghazi. White Water. Monica Lewinski. Impeachment. Benghazi. White Water. Monica Lewinski. Impeachment. Benghazi. White Water. Monica Lewinski. Impeachment. Benghazi.

Ad Naseum. Ad Infinitum.

No Sanders isn’t attacking ACA at all… right…
