National security experts warned that Trump’s comments threatened
international diplomacy and emboldened Russia to continue launching
minor military aggressions against those Baltic states.
Trump: “Mission accomplished, Vladimir, my friend.”
He repeatedly invoked the debts some of NATO’s 28 members owed, saying the United States couldn’t afford to bankroll military aid to other countries…
Is Israel taking notice of this?
Why does she have to go over the top like that. No one is going to take that statement seriously. It would be much more effective, and believable to simply say Trump is dangerously ignorant and does not understand how the world works.
“The President is supposed to be the leader of the free world,” Sullivan continued. “Donald Trump apparently doesn’t even believe in the free world.”
Fa-fa-fa-FREE?! Trump only believes in C.O.D. or cash upfront…
This reminds me of the slow build to 911 as the clear & present danger of Trump limps closer to the Oval…
Billy Bob Hayseed and his wife, Brandeen, from Bumblefuck, Redstate don’t care nothin’ 'bout them fernners. “Keep the gummint hands offa my medicare and pass me sum a dat deep fried butta!”
But for the rest of the thinking world, Trump just keeps digging deeper and deeper into Derpland.
Is Adelson?
Because a number of voters might assume he could fix his ignorance, or get good advice. Your temperament is much more ingrained. Trump is ignorant because he’s lazy, unable to concentrate on new information, and unconcerned about anything but his own self-aggrandizement by temperament. His personality is the number-one issue in this campaign and you have to show people who haven’t been paying attention that it’s a huge danger.
But everyone knows that already. And “Doesn’t Believe In 'Free World’” was only barely hyperbole.
The rest of the world listened to his statements about NATO and heard exactly what Hillary said. How long do you think it will be before Russia annexes the next neighbor? Does it not seem plausible that Putin will hear tRump’s proclamation as an excuse to try it even if (when) Clinton is elected?
As we chortle and mock Trump, do not forget we did that to Reagan in 1980 and Bush in 2000 (yeah— he didn’t get a majority of votes, but he won anyway). If voters who believe that we are shouldering an unfair share of the costs of defending the western alliance increase in number and come out to vote, there could be an unpleasant surprise.
The voters who supported Sanders may not hold beliefs terribly different form those expressed by Trump— hell, who knows if Sanders’ views on foreign policy are much different than Trump’s. It’s just not something I think the civil rights organizations, public sector unions, and economic justice wings give a lot of thought to. If you do not believe me, go outside of the TPM-zone and talk to some people and see what they think. This is an issue that has to be handled carefully and thoughtfully. That being said, I think HRC can do it. Hell, even Elizabeth Warren, when she talks about foreign policy, is somewhat of a hawk.
This could be the first time a Presidential nominee loses support after his own convention.
Instead of a bump, the seldom seen convention divot.
Everytime the Clinton campaign prevents itself from responding to Trump with a slew of obscenities, it is acting in an extremely restrained manner. This statement is really an understatement in regards to Trump’s anti-democratic and authoritarian tendencies and disdain for our allies.
Clinton’s “free world” comment echoes Cruz’s “freedom” criticisms from last night–See, all of us (Democrats and sane Republicans, but not the kool-aid drinkers in the convention hall) understand that Donald is unfit for office.
If anyone knows anything about “unpaid debts,” it’s Trump. He’s an expert in the field, and a compulsive liar. Why would anyone possilbly think him qualified for the Presidency? Oh, right, he’s not “crooked Hillary.” Give me a break.
Wrong. I agree entirely with Josh on this…the only thing that is preventing this from bubbling over into a full on international crisis is that most people in rest of the world don’t give Trump very good chances at becoming President.
But they do take these statements (and its hardly the first in this vein) seriously. Just watch the number of responses that come out from Europe today as the morning wears on into the afternoon.
If anything, I think Hillary’s statement are a bit on the tame side.
its 2016
2015 (and the belief that Trump wasn’t getting the nomination) went that away…<<<<<<<<<<<<<<,
Did they ask him about nuclear policy?
Any Trump answer on that would probably make me duck and cover for real.
Asian or European?
Unless he is the one paying, then he wants to both not pay AND have government (NATO) protect him.
@centralasiaexpat: they probably cut those questions out of fear after they heard his answers to the other questions.
