Discussion for article #237406
Apparently the pope is worried about mankind and the planet. Inhofe and his buddies are only worried about carbon companies’ profits.
It might just be my opinion, but dissing the head of the Catholic church seems to be a fools errand.
and the ultimate fool is pursuing the errand
if we get the Pope to stick to moral issues, will the GOP get out of the legislating morality game?
Especially given that the head of the Catholic Church is a trained scientist…
Oklahoma is not exactly a papist haven.
He’s not a terribly bright guy…
“APRIL 13–Newly released Federal Aviation Administration documents and audiotapes shed a scary new light on a bizarre incident late last year during which U.S. Senator James Inhofe landed his Cessna on a closed runway at a south Texas airport, scattering construction workers who ran for their lives as the politician’s plane hopscotched over them and six vehicles….”
If Jerry Falwell rose from the dead and declared that climate change didn’t exist and it was all a fraud by liberal scientists to extract grant money, Imhofe would fellate his rotting corpse on the spot.
From the same story:
Lamar Smith, the Texas congressman who heads the science, space and technology committee, raised cheers from the room when he said he proposed a 40% cut in NASA’s budget for earth sciences last week.
Clean water, healthy food and a livable climate. Are these things now political, Mr Inhofe?
I wonder if the residents of Moore, OK think that tornado of a year or two ago was just a figment of their imaginations as it was for Mr Inhofe.
Inhofe doesn’t just deny that the climate is changing (or that the change is human caused), he denies science in general. Evolution, climate change, Ebola…you name it and Inhofe will always arrive on the side of the Flat Earthers.
Inhofe is chairman of the United States Senate Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Oversight.
Imagine, a science denier as chair of a committee tasked with protecting the environment.
Apparently Senator Inhofe (R- Conoco-Phillips) sees his job to be that of protecting the fossil fuel and petro chemical industries. It’s what he’d paid handsomely to do. And being a Senator helps too!
Thanks Obama!
“Leave the Earth-destroying to us, Mr. Pope-guy. Your job is to keep wimmin and homosexuals in their place.”
For Inhofe reality does not apply. He is an important person, don’cha know, a one percenter, a republican (and a fucking stupid one at that). Consequences of action are for the little people.
Landing his plane in that reckless manner should have landed him in jail for a couple of days at a minimum.
I first met Jim Inhofe when he was just the son of a rich insurance company owner, running for governor of Oklahoma, losing to current OU president David Boren. I had a lot of contact with him later in the 70’s when he was major of Tulsa. At the time, I said he was the dumbest politician I ever met. 41 years later, I’ve met hundreds, if not thousands more politicians. he’s still the dumbest. Look in those blue eyes and you can see all the way to China. His head is absolutely empty.
Fact: “The Heartland Climate Change Conference” is nothing more than denialists like Richard Lindzen, Fred Singer, and Pat Michaels who are well paid by Heartand just to attend and speak at the “conference” to spout their anti-science lies. This is the farther thing possible from a scientific conference.
Almost give you the US Blues, eh?
Although, Imhofe has a BA from the University of Tulsa that he got when was 40. That could be something sciencey.
It looks to me, as a retired scientist, that there is an inverse relationship between success as a republican national politician and …ahem … intelligence.
Pope Francis, though, worked as a chemist for many years.
