Complete evisceration of their life’s work and ambitions couldn’t have happened to a more deserving bunch of white Christian nationalist KKKlowns.
This was the best laugh I had all day.
Yesterday’s was his being sent back to study hall for remediation.
Not that I believe for one minute that Bonehead Kobach is going to give up. But he’s gonna have to try a different tactic the next time.
Kobach & von Spakovsky will vigorously counter with the argument that the very fact that Blacks and Latinos and even Muslims are actually voting must mean that something wrong is going on
So inconvenient when judges require that experts actually have, you know, expertise.
This is what happens when right wing fever dreams meet the Rule of Law and Reality.
…and to think, they were just on the verge of exposing those 3 million illegal voters.
Geeze! I normally don’t like to pile on a kick a defeated man while he’s down, but this case is such a gross exception to that rule. May your soul rest in a very, very, very uncomfortable place, Mr. Kobach, for all of eternity! Kris Kobach be damned!
Still my favorite moment from the trial:
[Jesse] Richman, a political scientist whose surveys became the basis for Kobach’s claims of widespread voter fraud, struggled to explain inconsistencies in his effort to separate anglophone voters from those with foreign-sounding names.
Just hypothetically, [American Civil Liberties Union attorney Dale] Ho wanted to know, would Richman consider “Carlos Murguia” to be a foreign name?
Richman: “Probably.”
Ho: “Probably what?”
Richman: “Probably would code it as foreign.”
Ho: “Are you aware that Carlos Murguia is a United States District Court Judge who sits in this courthouse?”
Richman: “I am not.”
[Mic drop.]
Well, Trump appointed ‘judges’ and ‘justices’ [sic] will take care of that problem.
Now, back to Benghazi…
It is very reassuring to find that there is a still a venue in the U.S. political system where facts really are respected and linked to outcomes. It is also great to see von Spakovsky finally get taken down in a public forum where he can’t drown out the critic with a flood of noise and BS.
Love it @tierney
Hans von Spakovsky is just a lazy and unintelligent grifter with a dog and pony show for rich stupid people…
She pointed out that von Spakovsky, during the proceedings, “could not identify any expert on the subject of non-citizen voter registration.”
He did nothing to verify a spreadsheet provided by a Kansas election official showing only 30 instances of non-citizen registration or attempted registration in a county in Kansas, Robinson said, that he used to back up his allegations.
“He later admitted during cross-examination that he had no personal knowledge as to whether or not any of these individuals had in fact falsely asserted U.S. citizenship when they became registered to vote and that he did not examine the facts of these individual cases,” the judge said.
She also picked apart other claims von Spakovsky made about voter fraud based on reports outside of Kansas, and knocked him for failing to correct or supplement his expert report when obvious flaws were pointed out to him during the proceedings.
His next tactic will obviously be to send people out to register non-citizens and then rush before the cameras with page after page of names of non-citizens that have registered to vote. “See. I told you there was a massive voter fraud problem.”
I don’t recall any accusations of voter fraud prior to the Bush/Cheney era. America is famous for low voter turnout.
This is a major story that is being drown out by the immigration fight. It represents a huge defeat of Conservative scholarship (an oxymoron.) In particular Hans von Spakovsky, the premier conservative “scholar” in the area of voter suppression was simply disassembled. He is shown to be the crackpot crank he really is and always has been.
The fact that the story is flying under the media’s radar tells you just how powerful the voter suppression forces in the conservative elite really are and how good Trump is at dominating the news with his dazzling bullshit. This is a story that needs to be shared widely.
Just a dash or two in your headline recipe, please? And maybe a comma?
Claims By Top Voting-Fraud Alarmists, Dismantled By Judge In Kobach Case
Jesus surfing-on-a-pop-tart Christ
“He later admitted during cross-examination that he had no personal knowledge as to whether or not any of these individuals had in fact falsely asserted U.S. citizenship when they became registered to vote and that he did not examine the facts of these individual cases,” the judge said.
I. Have. No. Words.
The fact that this story is flying under the media’s radar is not how powerful the voter suppression forces are it’s the fact the children are being harmed at the border.
I agree that this should get the coverage it deserves, but judge’s findings are now part of the public record, unlike the incompetent plans for how to deal with “tender aged children” being separated from their parents.
All of this is necessary to prevent endless arguments over whether these “expert” witnesses had testimony that was wrongfully excluded. Because Kobach will appeal. Unless, of course, he misses the deadline or sends the appeal notice to the wrong address or forgets to sign it.
Hans should be sharing a cell with Seb.
Yeah, I mean, who made her an expert on experts?
