Discussion: CIA Tweets Raid That Killed Bin Laden As If It Were Happening Live

Iā€™m not sure Iā€™ve seen a more tone deaf action by a government agency that this.

And why is Secretary of State John Kerry the pic for the CIA doing something stupid?

That pic is from May 2011 when Kerry was a Senator and was speaking in Kabul. Caption reads

During a news conference at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, Sunday, May 15, Senator John Kerry said that Osama bin Ladenā€™s death may present a new opportunity for reconciliation with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Itā€™s the new, fun CIA!

And still, despite Republican denials, Osama Bin Laden still dead, General Motors still alive. But letā€™s take a giant step backwards and nominate a man who has zero experience for the job, and the temperament of a four-year old. What could possibly go wrong??

Hmmm. I looked for a caption on my screen and didnā€™t see one. I wonder if my ad blocker kicks those out. Thanks for the info.

This is kind of tasteless.

Untweet this.

Iā€™m hazy on the detailsā€¦ the Taliban was thrilled, right?

That was just weird. And seriously, who gives a damn? Itā€™s a stupid anniversary to mark. Of course, considering the source and how utterly out of touch they are in the ā€˜intelligenceā€™ community, Iā€™m sure this did seem like a good idea to people who thought water boarding was also a good thing. Assholes.

I canā€™t get too worked up about this either way.

Gimmicky and silly? Sure. But how much of the new social media already is?

On the other hand, it gives Obama a chance to take another victory lap:
Bush said he was gonna get bin Laden ā€œsoon,ā€
then says **ā€œI really just donā€™t spend that much time on him, to be honest with youā€
** for the next 7.5 years,
leaving the job for the next guy. Who accomplishes it.

ETA: Re. Accuracy: Why would new Gov account in Tweet form
be any more or less credible than old Gov account already out there?

When did targeted assassinations become US govt policy? What conditions must be met for these to be official?

@robcat2075 You can read the story for yourself.

Under the photo it says ā€œAP Photo/Musadeq Sadeqā€, and I Googled that phrase and was led to a story about the event at which Kerry spoke and this very photo.

Whatā€™s next, CIA? Tweeting the Bay of Pigs? Kennedyā€™s assassination?

And how can we even know if what youā€™re tweeting is really what went down?

Kind of pointless as well as tasteless.

Thatā€™s just awful. What the crap.

Next up, they will be tweeting the Nixon-Humphrey race to see if Hubert still loses.

Oooh, I hope Pope Francis does something similar for Easter: ā€œThe tomb is empty! ROTFLMAOā€

With appropriate emoji.

Another absolutely excellent reason to avoid twitter like itā€™s the plague. I remember a SOTU speech around the time members of the House and Senate had discovered Twitter. I think Bush II was in office at the time. The various members spent the speech staring at their phones rather than affording the minimum of respect to the Office of the President by at least seeming to be listening to him. I didnā€™t like Bush but I damned well respect the Office.
As @kendyzdad rightly points out, the CIA is badly tome deaf on this one. And why associate Kerry with this BS?

Maybe the CIA will also try to take credit for the Moon Landing and/or Beyonceā€™s latest album.
edit
I would hope those responsible get called to account for this by someone of statureā€¦

I agree about the tastelessness, but Iā€™m still glad that bastard is dead.
