Discussion: Chris Collins To Suspend Re-Election Bid After Insider-Trading Indictment

Letter from Dem opponent

If Collins remains on the ballot and gets the most votes, he can in fact be elected. The rules are that you can certainly run while indicted; and if convicted (probably wonā€™t be convicted in time, but just in case), he can even run from prison!

Itā€™s then up to Congress whether to seat him. Should he win, and should the Republicans somehow retain the House by a hair, itā€™s not too hard to figure out what theyā€™d do.

The problem is certainly not the conduct.
Nor, necessarily, the getting caught.

The potential raising of questions and/or bringing to light others who would be in difficulty if examined closely, on the other hand, is not OK.

Itā€™d be a good opportunity to have a team-building exercise for the whole House - dancing the hokey-pokey!

Harkening back to a more innocent time, and stuff.

The only thing I remember about politics is meeting Arnold Schwarzenegger. I sure didnā€™t know Nancy Pelosi.

I wouldā€™ve preferred heā€™d not met and mentioned Arnold and instead had met and mentioned Pelosi because presumably she was his critter

In his statement Rep. Collins says nakedly that itā€™s party before country. He said Pelosi would be speaker and impeachment of trump both would follow a democrat majority in the House and he canā€™t allow that.

10/10. Would read a second fifth ninth time again .

In the extensive discussion below the letter several residents of his district said his missive was meant for local ears and not necessarily for ours. I was just saying that there was a candidate. I agree that parts of the letter were not what I would like to hear as well. Nancy bashing is like Hillary bashing; each incidence feeds the general impression and all based on untruth.

How I love the smell of moral decay in the morning.Chris Collins, soon to be felon, suspends his re-election bid out of concern for ,and I suspect, keeping his son and future in- laws from being forced to hold a wedding ceremony in a federal penitentiary. Another low-life from the Trump swamp and menagerie bids adieu.

Well, at least we now know for sure where that damned swamp is.
Come to think of it ā€¦ Washington DC was built on a swamp ā€¦ for real.
edit
Well, not ALL of DC is swamp but Pennsylvania Ave is built over marshy creek land.

Itā€™s good to be a white-collar criminal.

Iā€™ll leave when Iā€™m damn good and ready to leave.

  • how are you so sure he was not on line?
and - with his trading windfalls - he could have obtained an ā€œe-z-passā€

I guess Iā€™m a bit cynical- I think this suspension is temporary.

By suspending his campaign, Collins doesnā€™t have his campaign ads or reports on his latest campaign event running alongside news reports on the scandal. Also, his campaign probably wants some time to plan and implement their damage control efforts.

Unless something even worse turns up, heā€™ll be back.

What a week for the trump orbit:
Manafort trial continues
Wilbur Ross embroiled in grifting $120 million
Gates has pled guilty and is a star witness for a reduced sentence.
Rep. Collins busted for insider trading while on the White House lawn.
Cohen apparently to be charged with tax evasion
trump sued for breaking the emoluments clause of the Constitution due to foreign money he earned trhu his DC hotel.
Mattis and Pence blather about a ā€œspace forceā€.
trump lawyers fret that POTUS cannot speak the truth even of he wants to.
Seth Meyers explained it all here, itā€™s a hoot to listen to:

The Democratic candidate in NY-27 is Nate McMurray. I am sort of dumbfounded that his name isnā€™t mentioned in the article.
