Discussion: Chris Collins To Suspend Re-Election Bid After Insider-Trading Indictment

Well this should move his Loosey Goosey Integrity index number up a notch or two.

How white of him.

His statement went on and on implying that he didn’t want a pro-impeachment Democrat to win and that’s why he’s suspending, but one commenter on Twitter said he’d remain on the ballot unless there were a court challenge, and a write-in could maybe win but it wouldn’t be guaranteed. So I don’t see what all that talk about this being best for the district was all about if not total B.S. from a guy who’s just quitting the race.

Must have got a good look at the evidence.

The crime was committed on the White House lawn in the middle of an event and a huge crowd.

Another one bites the dust-ah!

That was quick. I’m guessing the supporters in his district that he has bragged about making wealthy are pissed because they got a call from the SEC.

From Saturday morning’s Gannett coverage:

[quote]Rep. Chris Collins, the New York Republican congressman who is charged
with insider trading, said Saturday he is suspending his re-election bid
to keep Democrats from electing a pro-impeachment candidate in the
district.

… “They would like nothing more than to elect an
'impeach Trump” Democrat in this district, which is something that
neither our country or my party can afford" he tweeted Saturday.

He said he will “fill out the remaining few months” of his term to support Trump’s agenda.

And perhaps to plead for a spot on the presidential pardon list.

Any likely Democrat to take advantage of yet another GOP integrity implosion?

Wow. So his Republican overlords must have dumped on him like a ton of bricks. This was so bad that even they thought it was a problem? (They must have feared that it would harm their chances to retain the House, and it certainly would have made for glorious TV ads.)

If his name stays on the ballot - is he really quitting? Or is he just not actively campaigning? If by name recognition and tribalism he gets more votes - does he not go back to Congress?

That last question is a real one. I honestly don’t know.

“Suspending re-election bid” means what? Is he withdrawing as a candidate and the GOP will run another candidate? Or he’s still a candidate, but not campaigning?

Much like Trump’s press conferences.

The hallmarks of the Republican party and the Trump administration are corruption, cruelty and chaos.

. . . and hatred, but probably corruption first and foremost. That truly is the basis for their supposed principles.

I don’t know either. Obviously the overarching goal is to not have a stream of stories about insider trading felony indictment first Trump supporter all the way to the midterms. So far so good. But if they run a write-in campaign, your scenario is less likely, and if he just sits on his hands and doesn’t campaign that’s kind of weak, seeing he’s a crimer. My first question was whether there’s some scenario that has any rational relation to the stuff he said about why this is the right thing. And I guess the answer is no. Hugely shocked, I am. : )

A beating heart of the Russian Party sorta leaves the race for re-election. Crooks and day traitors, the lot of them. Send them all to Leavenworth.
