Not even Christie is wrong all of the time. Losing track of people overstaying visas is a serious flaw in the system. Yet I fear the solution he wants is akin to tattooing UPC scanner codes on people’s foreheads and constant laser-scan-reading in the public sphere.

Well, I understand the points Christie is making here and I’m glad to see a Republican presidential candidate state that a large chunk of today’s undocumented folks actually came here legally. That said, what does he expect us to be able to lawfully do to track people well enough so we know exactly where they are at the time of visa expiration? – put tracking devices on them? – track their movement from municipality or state to state, etc., like, you know, checking people’s papers (everyone’s)? Fed Ex is good with tracking inanimate, papered objects. Humans aren’t inanimate.

Then I guess we set up scanners, or forehead bar code readers. You’ll be walking down a crowded street and look up and see a drone with 2 lasers. One will scan for illegal immigrants and the other will take them out

This reminds me of Rand Paul’s underground electronic fences along the border with Mexico. He could never explain how he intended to get the “illegals” to wear the little receivers on their collars, so they’d get a jolt if they tried to come across the border.

And then supress the Latino vote by requiring photo IDs to vote (and making it very onerous to get said photo ID), cutting voting machines from voting stations in Latino neighborhoods (forcing them to wait longer to vote than they can afford to), etc.
