We’re gonna need a bigger closet.
I have an 8-month-old son who is, of course, now, way too young to understand all of this. But from the moment I knew we were having a boy, my sincere prayer was that he not grow up to be a jerk, period, but especially toward women. All these revelations, plus the daily reminder that a known habitual assailant of women is presently the president of this country, serve as a daily reminder to my wife and me of the one hope we have for our son as a human being.
“This has to end.”
Ladies, it’s effing ALLOWED.
Countdown to the swarm of posters saying that this whole thing has gotten out of hand and it’s all a witch hunt.
This is supposed to be a happy occasion, let’s not bicker and argue about who groped who! (h/t Monty Python)
Charlie Rose parading around naked. That’s an image to start the day with…
Guys are idiots. Any news story involving a man with a chainsaw, an ATV, or a recently gained fortune will confirm this.
But for the life of me I can’t imagine ever self-justifying getting bare-assed in front of a female co-worker.
This has to end and yes it is pervasive and systemic. I am not surprised as Nora and Gayle are. I was a loyal viewer of Charlie’s interviews and did not know about the scope or extent of his offensive actions. But, during the presidential campaign between an admitted sexual assaulter wiith hate toward every conceivable minority and the first viable female candidate, our endemic sexist culture became so crystal clear to me.
Charlie Rose revealed his sexism when he interviewed Hillary and during every panel discussion on the campaign. Particularly when Halperin was on the panel with his smerks and strange sexist judgments.
How can Gayle and Nora not have known of Charlie’s sexism? Sure, maybe not the depth and particulars but certainly the sexist attitude toward women?
This is why Mike Pence hasn’t been completely naked since birth. Private nudity is a slippery slope.
This is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Misogyny and sexual misconduct cut deep and cross all political boundaries (even if it’s tolerated less on one side of the isle). I’m hopeful that we’ll see more women running for congress and winning (just like we saw in VA). It’s going to take real power to beat this behavior back. Public shaming is a start, but history shows that people will become inured to it.
These episodes tell me you just never know. Bush 1!? Charlie Rose? We all knew Moore and Trump were bad news but these two did shock me.
More to come I’m sure.
It’s even better when those three things all happen at once…
…and now I’ve got Charlie Rose interviewing Mike Pence au naturale in my head. Thanks austin_dave!
I guess Mother really does know best.
That is why this one will be particularly bad. The scuttlebut is this wasn’t a well kept secret. Apparently CBS even knew this story was coming over a week ago.
The world is changing. The entitled good old boys who are being punished for behavior decades old deserve what they are receiving, but I am afraid they believed they weren’t doing anything “wrong.” I think we need to avoid reveling in their travails. We also need to expect many additional surprising reports. A lot of lives are going to be destroyed including those of current spouses and dependent children.
just for curiosity’s sake…what was the occasion when ROSE walked around naked? where did this take place? who was present? was it a ‘private’ thing?
It’s all about power and power-sharing. I read about this outrage, but the obvious, and broader, issue is equal treatment of women. Compare the situation to Finland. People sauna naked together without the prurient arousal Americans expect, women are closer in terms of equal pay and career opportunity, a larger part of the political leadership from the unicameral parliament to the supreme court are women, there’s excellent paid maternity/paternity leave for 10 months, universal healthcare, and Finnish kids are taught to solve problems collectively. The US, in contrast, maintains this paternalistic approach, and now we are discovering this? What is most telling about the Rose scandal is his stated perception that the ladies were onboard with his abuses of the power arrangement. And as we see with the current Evangelical push to defend Roy Moore, there even seems to be confusion as to whether we live in the US or the Republic of Gilead with More Guns.
and none of them came to HILLARY’s defence when TRUMPf made reference to her 'going to the bathroom or the ‘fainting’ spells…alluding to a woman’s physical weakness…and his stalking her on the debate stage…and he is still stalking her.
