Discussion: ‘CBS This Morning’ Co-Hosts On Morning After Rose Allegations: ‘This Has To End’

As the father of a 3 1/2 year old daughter, let me say, I’ve learned at least this much in that brief time. Every day, dozens of little things that you do add up to influence your child’s behavior and moral compass. If you’re damned determined that your son doesn’t grow up to be a misogynist and act accordingly, chances are real good he won’t.

children are an empty shell…they know nothing, all they will know is what they were taught, one way or the other, by the parents…so start early, instill in your boy the respect and kindness you have for each other & your friends…and all else will follow…parents are the first and most powerful ‘teachers’ a child has.

Women he worked with must have had a glimmer even if they weren’t personally affected, but Gayle shared with Oprah, so it’s cool.

That “Pence Rule” must have come from somewhere…

I am German and I saunaed 3 times a week with 30 naked men and women, we vacation for four weeks in the summer on the island of Sylt, no textiles in sight, we play volleyball with naked people we do not know. I know what 75 year old genitals look like and if Charlie Rose was parading those around his 20 year old assistant it was surely not a come on, more like a warning.

Here’s my hot-take. This is the left eating itself when it needs to stand together. Whoever pushed that first domino and whoever continues to make sure the dominoes keep falling seems to be one-by-one knocking off icons of the left. Icons who are otherwise good people, in many cases. Maybe the cycle is now self-sustaining, but I have a feeling it will die down when/if either Trump’s problems go away or he does.

If the left continues to react with its mix of prurient interest and apoplectic horror at these men it will serve to continue the cycle. Each revelation will pull another tooth from the resistance and separate brothers, hands from hands.

Trump wins.

Sexual harassment was a big issue in San Diego when former congressman Bob Filner was elected mayor of San Diego. The dude used to force kisses on women and he also dragged his female staff around the room in a headlock. The women complained to a former councilwoman, who was a democrat like Filner and she is the one that publicly confronted Filner. At the time, a columnist that I had often agreed with and respected, complained that we shouldn’t kick Filner out because he was going to provide jobs and do positive progressive things for San Diego. He just didn’t get it.

At the time, there were also news reports about sexual harassment in the military. But those voices seemed to quietly disappear. As we once again begin to openly confront this issue, I am wondering whether they will have the courage to speak up again.

And Republicans will continue to deny they ever did anything they are accused of, even in the face of credible evidence and reports, and threaten and investigate and humiliate the victims. And they will give a wink and say, “We want our country back, back to the good old days [when this and blatant racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. were all just fine and accepted, or at least not considered so bad].”

I had been reflecting on my own behavior back when I was younger and more testosterone poisoned only thought I was enlightened (as I may still be, of course) and feeling ashamed. But honestly, at this point I’m actually feeling like my sins were pretty venal by comparison and like I was up in the 90th percentile range as far as male privilege swinisheness goes.

Well, from a cannibalism standpoint, Charlie Rose is fair game because he ain’t us. He was never anything but a bothsiderist who never asked a Republican a hard question in his life.

Have you heard of selective hearing? My kids have that. Guess this is a case of selective seeing. But, there could be another more disturbing reason, it wasn’t happening to them so they kept their mouths shut. I put my money on the latter.

As hard as this is to say, I know why they minded their own business (if they did, that is). Many moons ago when I was a waitress in NYC I was constantly harassed by one particular manager because I was the new girl. All the other waitresses were relieved when I was hired because they knew the pressure would be off them and they told me this. I have to be honest, this guy scared the crap out of me, as I walked to work I’d be hoping and praying he wouldn’t be working my shift and the sense of relief that would wash over me when he wasn’t was/is indescribable. So yeah, I can understand why other people remain silent when they see it but it doesn’t happen to them. Not saying it’s the right thing to do, just trying to shed some light on what might motivate someone into silence…fear.

Actually, Billy Graham initiated it and Evangelicals adopted it. Billy Graham announced loudly to all (in Pharisee fashion) that he would never meet with a woman alone behind a closed door in order to prevent all accusations or suspicions of wrongdoing. This presumes that Billy, of course, is godly, but those jezebels are just itching to falsely accuse him.

I used to work with a guy who was a freshly born-again evangelical. He told me all about this rule and how it complicated his life. Needless to say, I was not sympathetic.

Ha ha! So true. Americans have a very odd prudishness about sex and nudity. Unhealthy, I think.

I have been to nudist camps (naturalist, as it’s called) and it was quite liberating. A culture that simultaneously shames and then secretly ogles nakedness is bound to develop weird neuroses about it.

Of course, there are sexual offenders in every culture - those are generally power plays, not really sexual.
