Discussion: CBS Chief: Don't Worry, Stephen Colbert Isn't Too Liberal

You nailed it, George. Since when does any network, broadcast or cable – other than Fox, of course – require the beneficent blessing of a hateful, bloated, loudmouth oxy fiend and racist pig?

oh for god’s CBS…don’t pander to types like Rush and his ilk.

I was so stunned after I saw that the night it aired I felt like I was in another universe! IMO, it was the first strike against Bush in the traditional media after 911. He was so godamned good, he was more than halfway through his spiel before the dullwitted Bush realized his guts were lying on the floor and being stomped on. Colbert was GOD to me after that!

Just wait until Rush realizes the popular reawakening of the Fairness Doctrine via Sterling and social media…

“Yep. Limpass represents the lower Southern portion of the body politic in this country. That’d be the asshole of America…The Deep South.”

I was referring to Rush Limbaugh and the rightwing assholes that follow his every word, but if you want to get defensive that I’m including all Southerners in with that pathetic group of race-baiters that listen to Limpass, by all means, don’t let me stop you. But don’t assume I’m referring to everyone that lives in the Deep South…because I never actually said that. I’m really sorry that some of your neighbors in the South are bona fide ignorant yokels, but trust me, we have those same ass-backward yokels up here in the North as well where I live.

BTW, I wasn’t at all referring to Colbert anywhere in my comment in response to IrasDad, so I’m not sure how you made that assumption.

I wish I could agree but I like Disqus better.

Les Moonves is an ass. To “respectfully” cower to the right in general and Limbaugh in particular should give Steven Colbert a sense of what he is walking into at CBS. He is leaving behind an awful lot of freedom. My guess is Les with fire him w/in the first year or Steven will leave in 6 months. The only thing that will make this work is boffo ratings — which is possible with someone as talented as Colbert.

“Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh sounded the alarms when CBS made the announcement [that Stephen Colbert was taking over the “Late Show” from David Letterman].”

To Lash Rambo: The people who watch David Letterman on the Late Show don’t care much for your opinion, Lash, but they do greatly appreciate your alarm. They are collectively smiling at the prospect of the Colbert Nation expanding, now that Mr. Colbert has won TV.

In the 1950s and 1960s, nearly every politician outside of the Deep South (plus Joe McCarthy) would have been too “liberal” for these 2014 BaggerNutJobs. REPUBLICAN President Dwight David Eisenhower (a) presided over an upper-income tax rate multiple times higher than the present one. (b) established the Federal Interstate Highway System © championed labor unions.

That’s an indication of the job FOX “news” has done to the Body Politic of the United States.

What FOX did was a stunning achievement. It turned the high-voting sector of older adults into bona fide Right Wingers.

I was in contact with quite a few academics and thinkers during the early to mid 1980s. Most of them missed the call on FOX. We really never saw it coming. If we had, the current Millennials would never be as cavalier about voting and its effect on their own future as they are now.

“Don’t worry…” because Colbert is voluntarily neutering himself.

Colbert’s attacks on conservative values is no worse than Limbaugh’s attack on sports television. Not even close.

Bittersweet news, indeed. He deserves a larger audience. But the Stephen Colbert who had the stones to ridicule George W. Bush to his face in April 2006 is going to get buried by the corporate drones.

"CBS has just declared war on the Heartland of America," Limbaugh said. "No longer is comedy going to be a covert assault on traditional American values. Now it’s just wide out in the open."

Fat paranoid bloviator bloviates paranoidly. Film at 11.

We’ll see. It’ll be interesting if he doesn’t neuter himself. Note that at the National Correspondents Dinner during the Bush years he didn’t pull any punches.

Comments still seem a bit … slow/0

“That’d be the asshole of America…The Deep South.”

“But don’t assume I’m referring to everyone that lives in the Deep South…because I never actually said that.”

I get it. The asshole of America is the The Deep South but you’re not referring to everyone who lives in the Deep South.

Slam dunk!

Hey Bill, if some those 40% end up watching Colbert a few times, some of them may actually figure out that the conservative movement has its head so far up its ass that it can’t get out of its own way.

It was the White House Press Correspondents Dinner in April 2006. Now known as the #nerdprom and you can watch this weekend to see who is the guest. After Stephen Colbert, the WCPC slammed the doors on any original comedian. Guess what’s going to happen to Stephen Colbert at CBS?

oh boy, is HE in for a shock. Colbert will slay every sacred cow in sight. And there won’t be a thing they can do about it. He’s smart enough to have retained total artistic control over his show in his contract.

Guess what’s going to happen to CBS with Colbert?
