Discussion: Cassidy Responds To Kimmel: 'More People Will Have Coverage' With My Plan (VIDEO)

If this bill is so great, why is McConnell changing rules and bypassing regular order to pass it?

How the fuck would we know how many people it covers and how much it will cost when the CBO hasn’t scored the thing yet?

This lie, for some reason, is more egregious and rage-inducing for me than most of the lies. If it’s a good plan, if it will get more coverage for cheaper, DEMOCRATS WOULD VOTE FOR IT. Pass it with 60 like it’s a real piece of substantive legislation, not a smoldering fire in the pages of the United States Code.

In conclusion: fuck.

Test post. Been trying to change my avatar for weeks. The “crack technical staff” is clueless. This one and the one I used of PBO taking the oath of office(which Roberts bumbled) are the only ones the system will let me use. None others I change to will appear with my posts. Tired of messing with it.

In states with Republican governors, more than 40 million people live in counties with only one insurer. If one excludes North Carolina which was under a Republican governor until just recently, only 2.1 million people in Democratic states live in counties without competition.

If Cassidy is so sure of all this why not allow the CBO score to prove him right? Sure, it’ll mean passage after 9/30, so 60 votes will be needed. But if it’s such a grand plan he could count on Dem support, right?

Ask him specifics, please.
–How does he know what individual states will do
–How does cutting back Medicaid end up insuring more Americans
–Define “coverage” : how comprehensive and at what cost
–How will the plan increase competition among insurers
–etc.

Maybe it (the bill) will spoil if it is exposed to daylight.

TPM – Why not try some original reporting?

According to Avalere, this bill cuts funding to 34 states. So 16 states, those that didn’t take advantage of the ACA, would see an increase in funding.

How about comparing the increase in funding these 16 states would get from the ACA, which they could still do, to this new GOP scheme?

Also, how about listing the 34 Loser States and what exactly they lose?

That’s actually the only part of it that I believe…

Response to all questions: “Trust me.”

Cassidy becomes exhibit no. 2x107 in the use of wilful ignorance as a tool of deception, not simply of others but of himself: he may suspect his bill is cruel crap but does not ‘know’ it (no CBO score) so he can say whatever he wishes about it and technically not be guilty of a bald-faced lie; he might even get lucky and be ‘right’ (+ a pony).

This kind of ignorance has been the norm for most movement conservatives and their televangical enablers since Reagan: nothing new, just another rip in the veil. The real horror is, even now that the veil is in shreds, there are so many who still join him in refusing to see.

NB: unfortunately for the wilful ignorance crowd, the independent analyses are already coming in and, yes, the bill is bad, very bad (ht krugman); see also https://www.cbpp.org/research/health/like-other-aca-repeal-bills-cassidy-graham-plan-would-add-millions-to-uninsured.

Is there even enough information about the plan to calculate that?

States like Maine, Virginia, Florida, Missouri — there’ll be billions more dollars to provide health insurance coverage for those in those states that have been passed by by ObamaCare.”

Notice how he lies. He is stating that states that did not expand medicaid would have more coverage. He didn’t say that all states would have more coverage. However, those state’s Republicans have already determined that they don’t need coverage so why would they do it now.

Kimmel was right. He lied to his face and now he’s lying to the rest of the country.

“What is being circulated is by those who wish to preserve Obamacare, and they’re doing everything they can to discredit the alternative,” Cassidy said.

No problem. We have a disagreement here. Let’s wait for the CBO score, and act accordingly. Who could possibly disagree with that approach?
