Discussion for article #240751
do Republicans have to take a test and fail Constitutional literacy test or are they just naturally un-American?
I seem to remember there being a prohibition against a group of people holding political office in the American colonies once…who were those…oh yes, Catholics! Our Founders decided to eliminate that by making it unconstitutional to bar someone from office based on religion.
United States Constitution, Article VI, Clause 3:
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.
What about a Jew, Dr. Carson?
I have to give the GOP credit. They are no longer even trying to hide the bigotry that is at the core of who they are, and what they do.
Carson, Carson, why are you persistent in sounding so damn stupid!
Christians DO NOT OWN AMERICA! READ THE FUCKING CONSTITUTION, WHY DON’T YOU, YOU FOOL!
I think the ever-so-Christian, esteemed, never-been-elected Dr Ben Carson just stepped into a beehive of backlash that will swarm after him, trying to teach him something about the U.S. Constitution, “no religous test” clause, etc. etc.
The result, among Republican Christian voters, of course, will be that his polls will rise, as so many Republican voters are Constitutionally-ignorant bigots just like Ben.
One is not a “naturally-born” bigot. One has to be taught that, and several religions will teach one that as one grows up. Dr. Ben has learned his bigotry from his brand of religion quite well.
Ben Carson, destroying racist stereotypes by proving once again that black people can be just as big of bigoted assholes as white people.
What about a Black Muslim, Dr. Carson?
He isn’t going to be president and he proves it every time he opens his mouth.
And he’s supposed to be the smart one.
A bigot is a bigot no matter the color of his/her skin color
I wish he’d been asked if an atheist could be president.
They used to say that about African Americans too, you arrogant asshole.
Should someone who swears an oath to ancient Greeks be allowed to become President? Sounds un-American to me.
Here’s the thing, Ben. All religions, and that includes yours, are incompatible with the Constitution.
Why is it GOPers have so much difficulty with the notion separation of church and state?
Y’know, part of taking any government job or commission or elected office in the United States is an oath to defend and uphold the US Constitution. Hell, I had to swear to uphold and defend it just to become a New York state notary public. [1]
So why do Republicans think actually having read the Constitution is unnecessary?
[1] Yes, I’ve read it. Every damn 4th of July, along with the Declaration of Independence, over morning coffee. No, not aloud.
