Discussion: Carrier Says It's In Talks With Trump After Trump Claim About Negotiations

This makes me sick. He will ‘save’ 2000 jobs and lose 100,000 and the sheep will continue to fight and smear and insult people who are actually trying to help this country.

He’s bullying Carrier’s big defense contracting parent company, I’d guess.

Which reminds me: If you’ve got any spare change, buy stock in defense contrators, private prison operators, and big finance, 'cause they’re going to do very well in the next four years.

This process needs to be transparent. Its not.

Because the way to deal with tectonic change in the global economy is to bully and arm-twist one example you used on the campaign trail into making you look good after having simply falsely said you did something about the other when it was never leaving in the first place.

is he offering them the job of refurbishing a/c in all the buildings in DC? starting with the White House, Congress, Pentagon?

Please wait awhile, depending on how its discussed now (and in the future), transparency should be an important campaign topic in 2018.

maybe.

This is one area where I have to disagree. Jawboning is a big part of the job. Democratic presidents from Roosevelt to Carter used to do it routinely. I’m sorry that the Democrats haven’t seemed to understand that in recent years. If Trump succeeds here, he will get credit, and will deserve it. If he doesn’t succeed, he will get points for trying. And it will have an effect in board rooms across the country.

CNBC reported Friday morning based on unnamed sources that Vice President-elect Mike Pence has been leading negotiations with Carrier to reach deal that “would likely keep a workforce in the U.S.”

You misspelled “P-E-N-C-E.” As always, the Liar-in-Chief will take credit for someone else’s work. Don’t believe a word he says, or tweets, or farts out; he’s a con man.

This stunt is pure dictatorship–the president directing enterprises how to run their business. Wow.

FoxNews will parrot the “saved many jobs” line from here until the end of his administration, the rest of the media will parrot what FoxNews says. That’s why the voters in parts of the rust belt, whose jobs were saved to the tune of 1.5 million by Obama during the auto-bailout, will continue to vote against their best interests.

Funny you should bring up refurbishing A/C all around town. This is a pic of where the populist, man of the people, I feel your pain, what have you got to lose, gonna save the rust belt and rejuvenate the rest of the states lives in Palm Beach. I foresee a beautiful future with Carrier.

Jawboning’s part of the job, certainly, but the problem for a certain swathe of American labor is that their counterparts in other countries are willing to work for less, along with increasing automation. Trump can call up one company and jawbone them but I don’t think he can save every $25-an-hour manufacturing job that’s on its way out the door that way. If you don’t have a more forward-looking, adaptive set of plans than that you’ll have a couple of victories to crow about misleadingly amid a landscape that basically hasn’t changed.

@mattinpa Exactly this. Those jobs won’t be “saved”. Their death will just be delayed a while. Long enough for Trump to claim credit for saving them. That’s not a bad thing if you’re one of the 1,500 employees, no doubt. But this is just putting a band-aid on a guy who needs brain surgery.

That’s why it’s imperative for the DNC–hello, anybody at home there?–to keep a database of every job closure, every factory closure, every new factory opened by a US enterprise abroad, and to publicize every one. Ram home that Trump cannot deliver on his promises. Otherwise every fucking new job in the country will be claimed by Trump as a personal triumph, and this goon will be the president forever.

The SOB has an instinct for storytelling, that’s the problem. The stories are invariably false. But they’re simple, vivid, easy to understand.

You beat me to it. “he will get credit, and he will deserve it.” And you know, b/c ‘opportunity’ knocks, Carrier will stay in the US of A! And he’ll promote it. What an opening!

Meanwhile, back to the Clinton Team and identity politics.

They will either be rewarded or punished by the government. Neither is good.
