“My government will not rest until we have done everything in our power to reduce violent crime and to protect innocent life."

Another lie. He is still tweeting.

A real president would have used this occasion to proclaim a deep and abiding reverence for the First Amendment, a free press, and the special duties and dangers that go with dedicating your career to the pursuit and reporting of facts no matter where they lead.

Trump’s statement was “good people on all sides” revisited.

History won’t have a dustbin for him. It’ll be a shithole.

I talked to my neighbor’s niece today. Her dad lives in the UP, and they talk every week about Trump. She said she couldn’t believe that it’s what they discuss, but she said he’s scared about the direction of the country.

She told him, “Dad, it’s going to get worse before it gets better.”

People are getting it.

I told her to get her dad to talk to the Yoopers. Maybe he already is.

We are journalists.

Yes, we bring values and beliefs to our work. We believe in truth. We believe in speaking for those who don’t have the power to speak for themselves. We believe in questioning authority.

We believe in reporting the news.

So good it has to repeated everywhere.

And this:

Some day we hope to be as good again. That’s all we can do.

Edited to add I got teary-eyed, but more resolved after reading that.

There’s a reason the First is the First. Somewhere James Madison is applauding this column.

No one should forget this happened during a week when President of the United States referred to the press as the enemy of the people. It is not fake news that these people died because they were reporters and members of the media.

Faux News stars sexually assault women. Some finally get caught because of the assaults and get a nice little package to leave.

The rest keep getting paid handsomely for lying everyday.

But they drink a lot and pretend it’s okay. Would not want to be any one of them.
