Discussion: Bush: 'It Probably Was Inappropriate' For Pope To 'Intervene' In Primary

Discussion for article #246207

When will The Acronym denounce the evangelical ministers of mega-churches intervening in a primary?

The man simply has no viable political instincts. When your opponent is hanging himself, you either stand aside and let them finish, or you give them more rope. You don’t jump in the middle and try to take the noose off.

I don’t recall him speaking out against the inappropriateness of Republicans intervening in the Iran talks, or of inviting Netanyahoo to speak in Congress, or of saying that any Obama Supreme Court nominee won’t even get a hearing. Among countless other things that Republicans do that are inappropriate.

ā€œHe is a spiritual leader, he’s an inspiration, he’s the head of my church, so I’m cautious about this, to be honest with you,ā€¦ā€

I refer back to my comment of a few says ago regarding rakes on the ground being stepped on. You can literally see the hook coming out from Stage Left to yank him off…

Christ on a cracker!! Hasn’t anyone in his campaign told him he’s NOT going to get the fundie nutjob vote? That’s been locked up by Cruz forever. If he can’t seal the deal in SC, he’s got to try to reach out to Catholic conservatives and I can tell you now that here in the Northeast, this isn’t going to be received well.

EDIT TO ADD: Whatever we can say about Kasich, appropos of Davey’s comment, his political instincts are, at the very least, realistic. He knows whose vote he can probably count on and works towards that. I’m not saying it’ll get him any closer to the nom but he’s not swimming against the tide.

So it’s okay for the Pope to ā€œinterveneā€ in everyone’s private life, just not Republican politics. Got it.

Oh, Jeb. What a hopeless doof. The Pope was asked a question, and he answered it. What’s he supposed to do, reply, ā€œI would like to weigh in on that, but the South Carolina primary is simply too sacredā€?

ā€œā€¦but I don’t think he helped anybody by saying Donald Trump’s not a Christian,ā€ Bush said.

The Pope on Thursday said that it ā€œis not Christianā€ to build a border wall when asked about Trump.

Not unlike the late Justice Scalia, the Pope was attacking Trump’s ideas not Trump.

What strikes me is that not a one of these alleged candidates bothered to really check out what had actually happened beyond the flame-throwing media short-hand in the various questions…

ā€œProbablyā€

The word says it all. The man is incapable of not trying to hedge his bets. Jeb! is probably not going to be president & he is probably not going to get the nomination.

The fact is, he’s got the wrong policy. Building a wall and making Mexico pay for it is not a policy."

ā€œand this is where the conversation should have been about the US was going to make the Mexican government pay for that wall, but please continue Governorā€¦ā€

He is a spiritual leader, he’s an inspiration, he’s the head of my church, so I’m cautious about this, to be honest with you, but I don’t think he helped anybody by saying Donald Trump’s not a Christian," Bush said.

Billionaire presidential candidate Donald Trump said Tuesday that the United States should kill the family members of ISIS terrorists in order to defeat the jihadist group, a tactic that would likely be considered a war crime.
In an interview with Fox and Friends, the Republican frontrunner said he would ā€œknock the hell outā€ of ISIS with an aggressive military strategy if elected president. That strategy, he said, would include using deadly force on people who are related to ISIS members.
ā€œWe’re fighting a very politically correct war,ā€ he said in response to a question about avoiding civilian causalities. ā€œAnd ***the other thing is with the terrorists, you have to take out their families***. They, they care about their lives. Don’t kid yourself. But they say they don’t care about their lives. ***You have to take out their families***.ā€

Yeah, it’s somewhat baffling the Pope has doubts about Trump’s Christianity. Total mystery, unfounded, a baseless slur.

What is ā€˜inappropriate’ is for you great ā€˜Christians’ to take the Pope’s words, change them, add to them, be outraged by them, denigrate the Pope and then comment on something that has no bearing on reality. BS. Just SHUT THE FK UP!

I don’t take direction on climate and economics from the pope. And when he comes right out and tries to help my campaign, I will reject that help. I really don’t want to be president, so stop.

No Jeb, the Pope is NOT a ā€œspiritual leaderā€, he is a head of state AND a RELIGIOUS leader of one of the world’s largest religions. He is by definition infallible, at least in Catholic doctrine to boot! I’ve NEVER heard of petty politicos, especially CATHOLIC ONES speaking out against the Pope! This would have been a disqualifying act in the past, but the GOP has sunk so low, nothing they say or do can affect their base of ignorant mouth breathers.

That’s because they weren’t religious zealots. Oh, wait …

I have to wonder why Jeb!'s opinion on much of anything matters. He could write a check for a billion dollars on campaign advertising (as opposed to the 100 million he’s blown through in the last year) and he’d still trail in the race badly. Reporters may as well ask what the Bozeman, Montana city auditor thinks of the issue.

It’s inappropriate for the pope to intervene in the primary, but perfectly fine for the koc bros to do so!

Money talks, Jesus walks.

Jeb, the Pope was commenting on what Christianity is all about. Not walls or exclusion. So if he was asked then it is totally appropriate for him to respond. And he made a point that he wasn’t telling anyone how to vote. Building walls to exclude people is not a Christian act. Simple.
And besides Jeb, the Pope is YOUR spiritual leader. If I were you I’d be a bit more careful in choosing my words. In the past you’d have been in a world of hurt for saying what you did.
