Amazing how it takes a guy this long.

Don’t get any hopes up. He’s still dumb enough to be a Mississippi Regressive.

Had McDaniel won, he’d be part of his election committee.

Well, this guy just resigned, so he must already have a huge tolerance for right-wing nut-casery.

He may need a professional debriefer or a very skilled deprogrammer to help him reestablish his moral sense what’s right and wrong, but it sounds like he’s at least taken the first step towards sanity. Too bad it took him this long.

I suspect this guy became a Republican because his parents were/are Republicans, because Republican “ideas” are all he’s grown up hearing. As he’s gotten older, he may be looking around and starting to see the incredible damage his party is doing. The rise of the TP and their outpouring of hate may have been the thing that pulled back the curtain and finally revealed to him just how nasty these people really are. And since his last name is Alvarez, I imagine he didn’t take too kindly to the blatant racism that was the TP response to Cochran’s win. Either way, good for him. It doesn’t matter how you come into the light, what matters is that you get there.

How’s that “youth outreach” going for you, Reince? 'Bout as good as the Latino, African American, LGBT, and woman outreach?

Actually, if you read the article, it very much sounds like he left because of the Tea Party and not because the TP lost.

I believe it wasn’t so much coming into the light as barely escaping a black hole.

I don’t know that we need any more Right leaning Conservatives in the Democratic party. In fact we may be over stocked. He isn’t coming to the party because he agrees with core Democratic Principles, he’s coming because he disagrees with very very extreme right leaning principles in his own party. There is a difference and all that this type of person does is drag us further to the right. So in the end there will be Liberals leaving the Democratic party for the same reason he left the Republican party: Its gone to far to the right.

Exactly. More right wingers in the party is not something to celebrate.

Although I agree with you, it does matter how long it takes to get there because in the meantime, people are getting hurt. Someone should not have to get hit over the head before they come to some of these realizations.

When you’ve lost the College Republicans, you’ve REALLY lost.

So far, no evidence of that happening. (Yet.) I’ll take what I can get in Mississippi.

No, it really doesn’t matter to me at all how long it takes people to get there. A lot of Republicans are in deep denial about what their party has become and a whole lot more simply aren’t even aware of the issues enough to know how far out there they’ve gone. Too many people can tell you every detail of the Kardashians lives yet can only tell you that “something happened” with Hobby Lobby today.

Besides, since he was the chair of the college Republicans, I’m guessing he’s still a kid with some growing up to do. Leaving the Republican Party is an excellent start.
