I knew people in those states affected should have worried after the Trump administration’s handling and excuse-making after Maria.
Brock Long is responsible for providing relief and saving lives in the most deadly of natural disasters. He says FEMA isn’t concerned with how many people died as a result of his decisions and policies. We have no reason to have any faith in his leadership or willingness to assess and learn from mistakes.
In authoritarian regimes loyalty is prized above all else.
Competent professionals are replaced by loyalists.

Well put. Like @chelsea530 's post above points out, this is a man responsible for the allocation of disaster resources basically saying “disasters are complicated – what’s anyone to do?”

In a way, though, Trump is right. Most of those approximately 3000 people weren’t killed by Maria - they were killed by the neglect, incompetence, malfeasance, and corruption of the Trump adminstration’s response (and lack thereof) in Maria’s aftermath.
With all the people who died in the wake of disasters FEMA should have responded to more responsibly, toadying is really the least of Long’s sins.

Pretty much anyone who’s had a career has seen shabbily run organizations headed by mealy-mouthed ass-kissers like this. I’ve seen it for a lifetime and I’m sick of it. This bastard bears a responsibility for those deaths, and it all flows from the top. Disgusting.

A) Republicans, don’t be silly. This was not done by Democrats to make Donald look bad. He does that by himself, and besides, it was a study commissioned by his government.
B) Assume Republicans are right. If so, we need to fill FEMA with Puerto Ricans. Anybody with the expertise to ride out a direct hit from a Category 5 hurricane on an isolated island while living in a hut, then surviving for months with no water, food, or medicine…
