I’ve rarely heard Bannon speak, but the impression I get is that this is not an idiot. He’s a very dangerous (because of his position) antisocial white supremacist asshole who appears to be (successfully, so far) orchestrating the sabotage of our republic to further his Nazi dreams.

Go for it Donald… Let’s see you do something better… something that can pass both the House and the Senate… Something that can be accurately summarized on one page with less than 9 bullet points… Something sufficiently specific that it does not need to be rewritten by the bureaucrats and turned into mind-numbing regulations. You’ve been on the job now for over 50 days, I am sure that you have gained sufficient mastery of the intricacies of governing to write up a simple law like this… Go for it Donald!
All snark aside… Letting DJT take lead on this is probably the best ting that could happen… (For the Democrats!) He will tie up the Rs for months if not years. He will split them into two or more camps and will completely poison the atmosphere so that they can’t cooperate on anything in the future. He will force their propaganda engines (Fox, Breitbart & Drudge) to each take sides and alienate the other group’s followers. It will be a battle to the death in the mud. With any luck, the Republican party will go the way of the Whigs.

However, it proposes some rather, um, extreme measures for attaining those ends, including axing agency components, merging them with one another, or even—if a forthcoming review reveals redundancies or inefficiencies—eliminating agencies altogether.

Isn’t this nice. Trump has his very own ‘media arm’ that will go after anyone he isn’t currently enamored with. FOX doesn’t really count because every once and a while you have a ‘Shep moment’ and they aren’t all agreeing. Breitbart however, will spew the Right Wing BS and attack from there. Lovely.

Paul Ryan does have resources of his own. If a civil war actually breaks Ryan can count on significant resources as well. I presume the republican billionaires who backed Hillary and his former running mate will support him. Their is plenty of money to fund both sides, no one is going to be defenseless.

This is where Bannon and Trump discover that the Legislative is a different, independent, branch of government. They can go to war with Ryan if they want (and, I sincerely hope that they do), but they will discover that there are limits to their reach. Ryan may not be the philosophical genius he takes himself to be, but he’s a good enough politician to get himself elected Speaker.
Republicans infighting with each other is a good thing for the country.
