Manchin. Jesus. They could’ve had to truck in Mike Pence to break the tie, which would’ve looked great for them. Stabbed in the back, and probably will get stabbed in the back again tomorrow (how often does someone vote for cloture just to vote against on the final vote?)

Remember the health care vote? Voting to end debate doesn’t mean you will vote “yes” on the nomination. Further debate won’t change any minds.

Collins and Flake come through again. Those wonderful “moderates”.

My God, I wish I could get to DC and get arrested tomorrow.

Not strictly rhetorical—I’d wager there’s probably a fair difference between how often that happens on ordinary legislation vs nominations. Not to mention, this nomination is a special case—if he gets confirmed despite a yes cloture vote turning into a no final vote, it’ll be very difficult to wiggle out from the cloture vote, even if it was “just a vote to end debate.”

Which Republican voted against? Murkowski?

Wonder how Daines absence plays into this whole sordid affair. I guess he’d announce his intent if they needed his vote and hold it open until he got back.

Thanks. So presumably she will definitely vote against him tomorrow?

Anybody who can ramp up the pressure needs to be very busy over the next 30 hours.

More than you would think.

It used to be very common, on both sides of the aisle.

This means 30 hours of debate, which could sway a vote or two.

It doesn’t mean confirmation is assured.

When the GOP have their 50 necessary votes, Manchin will go along with them to preserve
his standing in Trump-friendly WV. Don’t judge him harshly for that. We should only complain
if and when they lose 2 GOP Senators but Manchin gives them the 50th vote, and I doubt that
it will turn out that way.

Don’t be silly. Danes will be there to vote. Putting a rapist on the SC is far more important than your Daughter’s marriage.

The SC will be worthless

A bit of a side point-to call what Congress does a “debate” is a bit of a stretch. The average high school Debate Club is more thoughtful…

This was vote of ideology not for a specific bill. Manchin has to go. He is not a Democrat, he voted for this because he believes it is what he should do.

A black day for the court and the nation. The one ray of light I see at the moment is that it will prove a black day for the Republican Party, too.

(And for some reason, I believe that Kavanaugh will serve for a decade or less. On the other hand, I’m old enough that I might not last even that long.)

Josh: “What you need is a grievance. That is where the ‘late hit’ nonsense comes from, a baseless story that turns Kavanaugh and by extension Republicans into victims of some sort of plot.”

Yep, that’s why he’s now demanding communications between and amongst the various accusers and/or senators. The mere requesting of that information or those documents insinuates that it was all a big plot, a conspiracy, that everyone was colluding to smear and destroy Kavanaugh. It is, quite frankly, precisely what they’ve done to the Mueller investigation from day one: Attack the messenger, because they’ve got nothing when it comes to trying to attack the message (other than simply trying to cover it up by making it secret or disinforming everyone as to what the message really is)…
