Obama nominated this nitwit judge.
Well. Just goddamn it. F**k.
Well, now we know how he got through.
No doubt one of Obama’s appeasement nominees.
Another one of Obama’s “moderate” appointments made to get through a Republican Senate, no doubt.
I’d say, without the shadow of a doubt.
Enjoy this moment boys, your world is about to get shaken to its foundation.
Does this mean they can get caught red handed on election day now that they might feel emboldened?
This is just a delay … close to election type of thing —
The order clearly states that discovery will be taken back up after the election —
Everyone’s world is about to get shaken to its foundation, regardless of Tuesday’s outcome. It’s either Armageddon or it’s obstruction with a side order of investigation and impeachment.
Amazing judgment. The Trump campaign sets up a ‘voter fraud’ poll-watching organization (which the RNC is not allowed to do); the Trump campaign’s three senior figures assert that the RNC is helping them–a smoking gun if there was ever one; the RNC does nothing of substance in real time to distance itself from the organization or from the Trumpist assertions of collaboration and indeed makes numerous pronouncements about the threat of voter fraud; the RNC continues to intensely support the Trump campaign in all respects. Then suddenly, when faced with the judge, the RNC denies involvement in the voter fraud initiative; and the denial is not only accepted at face value by the judge but emboldens him to assert that the DNC is unlikely to win at trial.
Wow. I can only think that this judge, like Comey, is petrified by the prospect of a rightwing backlash.
Obama nominated a lot of R’s to the bench to show he could be moderate. To be fair, one of them last week In Philadelphia denied a request to change the PA election law to allow poll watchers from Pennsyltucky come into Philadelphia to disrupt things.
Disappointing. But it sounds like it’ll keep the Republicans on the defensive on Tuesday.
OK…they get to cheat FIRST and then we’ll ‘revisit’ the issue. I guess 4 years was not enough time.
I bet Trump loves THAT Hispanic Judge.
It’s a very carefully reasoned decision, and – although I might disagree with it – is supportable on the basis of the evidence available in the record at the time of the decision. But. The judge acknowledges that, because of the short time, he was willing to go with affidavits from GOP officials in lieu of production of the actual documents normally required in the case. The DNC is free to come back after the election and ask for complete discovery, and I doubt the court will be happy if the complete record and the affidfavits turn out not to match up.
The other thing is that the GOP is basically doing the same thing as the Catholic Church did when defending all its child-molestation cases. It’s making the claim that all of the local committee and all of the campaigns running under its auspices are independent of the main organization and thus not bound by anything that binds the RNC. That means we have to root the criminals out one state at a time…
Damned “Mexican judge”! Or so Trump would say.
Folks, please don’t attack the judge, he’s following the law and the evidence, and the evidence isn’t strong enough to make the case.
Yet.
The Democrats should be paying special attention on Tuesday, so that when the Republicans come out and pull their dirty tricks this can be taken up again, with more concrete evidence, and more time for proper discovery and investigation. I find it likely that the RNC is violating the order, but the details will take time to come out. And, it will be mixed in with the crazy Trump supporters that try to shut down polling in black precincts, which will make the case even stronger.
So, be patient, and don’t fall into the same behavior the Republicans do when a decision goes against them.
“The Court finds, as a matter of law, that neither Ms. Romney McDaniel nor Mr. Gleason are subject to the Consent Decree if they are acting solely in their capacity as state party chairs,” the judge said.
STATE PARTY CHAIRS FOR THE RNC! IDIOTS. This makes no sense. State Party Chairs report to the National Party. That’s their fucking purpose to their job. This makes no sense.
RNC: “Come on, pretty much the only good thing about having him as our nominee is he does the voter suppressiony stuff we cant’ do.”
On the plus side, there was some serious push back down south with the return of 6,700 “purged” voters to the NC voting lists.
I think the main function of most of these suits is proactive. In other words, we are watching you GOP, we know you are trying to cheat, we know how and where you are trying to cheat, and we are going to shine a spotlight on it BEFORE you cheat. So do not even think about it, or we’ll nail you and get you sanctioned for another 8 years. At least. Oh, and about that reel back of the voting rights act? We will be revisiting that ASAP after Hillary wins.
