Discussion: Boehner: Shinseki's Resignation 'Changes Nothing'

Discussion for article #223345

Of course it won’t, and Dems who thought it would are politically (wilfully?) naive.

The “scandal” will continue, no new secretary will be confirmed, and Dems won’t have a thing to show for it, because they are all incapable (unwilling) to forcefully point out the dreadful GOP position on veterans.

The GOP got exactly what it wanted, and the Dems got nothing, except the sliming of an honorable and decent man tasked with cleaning up after the Bush Administration. In other words, SSDD.

Congrats!

What Boehner meant to say was “The resignation of Shinseki changes nothing until Congress decides to fund the VA at an appropriate level.”

‘For instance, it doesn’t change the fact that I’m still orange.’

Boner’s message started out sensibly but then it segued into the usual “holding the president accountable” blah blah. Forty-one members of Boner’s party in the Senate voted against VA funding in February, let’s hold them accountable instead.

With Shinseki’s resignation now the Obama administration has no more excuses. The problems at the VA are identified and clear, plus there is over-funding of the VA with huge budgets surpluses every year, now it’s time for Obama to get this right. Our vets have waited long enough, for Pete sake.

Of course this changes nothing - somehow Shinseki is being held accountable for what the bufoons in Congress and the criminals in the Phoenix Arizona facility did!
This just enables boner to feel like he’s won a “victory” against the democratically elected President.
It is appalling and indicative of the venal political atmosphere that this fatally incompetent imbecile has allowed to exist.
As long as the GOP and it’s leadership continue to put their own positions above the good of the citizenry of this country - favoring party over country it will continue!

“House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said Friday that Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki’s resignation “changes nothing” until President Barack Obama comes up with a plan to address problems with access to care at the agency.”

So now Boner wants to blame Obama for Shinseki’s resignation? How frigging rude!

Scoring cheap political points is far more important than solving a problem for Boehner and friends. And that thought applies to any problem, not just the VA.

To say that we are “through the looking glas” doesn’t come close to JUST how crazy things have gotten.

It changes quite a lot, making it substantially less likely that anything will be fixed before the Speaker’s reelection campaign. I hope the President nominates that candidate for Surgeon General who the NRA opposed so fiercely.

Despite the fact that certain Dems think they’ve pushed this aside (yeah, I’m looking at you Duckworth. What a disgrace…) , this could pose a problem for any 2016 Dem candidate. If nothing has really changed, for the better, if the veterans community pushes this to the forefront in 2015, people are gonna look to the Democratic Party to find out why nothing has been done - with a Dem POTUS.

If there are Dems who think there should be something to show for this, then they are no better than the repugs. What truly sucks about this is the lame ass media discovered it.

Fixed? This situation took decades to make, it will take a very long time to fix.

Since 2008, I have not seen much mention (outside of Progressive outlets) of any “holding accountable” of any number of the right-wing operatives indirectly responsible for a myriad of problems. Boehner knows this. He also knows that there is no accounting for anything HE says or does.

Large organizations can have systemic problems. The difference is that public organizational problems can be more visible, while private organizational problems only become public if there is a Fourth Estate (or government) willing to bring them up.

When Boehner and his crew accomplish their task of “shrinking the government into something that can be drowned in a bathtub”. I am sure that low I.Q/low info Baggers will feel “mission accomplished”.

And then they (along with the rest of us non-voters who could have stopped Baggerism if we could fathom that voting=political access) will be treated to a country in which there will be NO accountability for anything.

Because, outside of the bosses of these private corporations, no one’s say-so will count for anything.

Including the say-so of the ignorant, clueless Baggers.

Not true, because of last fall’s filibuster reform Obama doesn’t need a single Republican vote to get his nominee confirmed. Not one.

This is like someone, who, after kidnapping your children and starving them, calls the police and asks them to investigate you for child neglect.

Insufferable, burnt sienna-tinted, wanker!

This is totally working as it was intended, because I’m completely distracted from Benghazi right now.

Nor does it change the fact that I’m the weakest Speaker in history. Nancy Pelosi has more balls than I do.
