Ain’t herding cats fun?
Stick to winning the Boston marathon every year, Ryan. Every day reveals more and more what a complete fraud you are.
That’s a shame. Couldn’t happen to a wonkier guy.
That headline though.
Ryan, the purported GOP Savior, is a total failure at being Speaker, and, apparently, at his pre-promotion position of Chair of House and Means if he can’t get a budget done. He’s spineless and lacking in integrity. He could tell the 40-some reactionaries to buzz off and then work across the aisle with Nancy Pelosi if he were interested in governing. And he could forgo gallivanting around gossiping about Obama (bad!) with world leaders and he could stop running his own (seditious) brand of diplomacy.
“Boehner-sized”? “Blown”?
TPM’s titles and captions (or lack thereof) have taken some hits here, but all is forgiven.
Word!
Best. Headline. EVAH!
“Part of the problem is we’re a victim of the success of the fact that we have appropriations numbers already in law. We already have an agreement in law,” Ryan said Thursday during a press conference.
Come on Rep. Ryan. Not even you believe that horseshit.
“He is absolutely different,” said Rep. Steve King (R-IA). “The whole climate in this conference has changed. There is one place I am in support of climate change and that was in the Republican conference.”
I don’t think there’s even a word for the magnitude of Steve King’s bozoness.
Folks, if you think this Ayn Rand worshipper is incompetent now, just imagine how he would act as President…
Speaking smart-sounding number words wasn’t enough as Budget Chairman and it won’t be enough as Speaker. The numbers have to add up to something, and Ryan’s numbers add up to priorities and values which are too abhorrent for even a majority of Republicans.
Oh man, that headline. Perfectomundo! More of this please.
When it comes to being a leader, Lyin’ Ryan is just as limp as Boner was!
New Boar’s Teat? Just as useless as the Old Boar’s Teat!

And don’t you worry! The Freedom Caucus will always be there for you. As with Weeper Boehner: “They have your back!” Enjoy!
I’d feel sorry for him if he weren’t such an assh*le and getting far less trouble than he deserves.
Aren’t you glad that the Pubbies are showing all Americans the leadership that the Pubbies promised to show Americans not long ago?
Part of the burden of choosing to be a leader is making at least occasional hard decisions.
Speaker Ryan, is confronting a choice which he automatically assumed as an inherent part of his previous choice to become Speaker. He can choose to allow a small minority of people, who appear to be absolutely resistant to reason, to control his every decision, by undermining or negating it, thus rendering him ineffective as a leader, and damaging the whole nation, or he can decide to stand up for the country as a whole, and show them that such a narrow faction are so outrageous, that they don’t deserve to have control over decisions which so adversely affect the whole nation.
All he has to do is pick an instance where they are being particularly intransigent, reach across the aisle, reach a reasonable deal with the Democratic opposition and render the thus far unmanageable members of his part irrelevant in a way that not only gets their attention, but dials back their incentive to continue to be outrageous in their demands, lest they lose all influence whatsoever.
If he truly aspires to making a presidential run in the future, and there is every sign that he does, at least at some level of his ambition, then he has to realize that such an ambition is best served, not by taking the no hassle path, but by putting the needs of the nation above a small group of power-hungry, unrealistic, and selfish members of a largely recalcitrant faction, and being firm on behalf of the nation as a whole.
One of the cogent questions he could ask himself is what do they bring to the table that is of such value to the nation that its fate should hang on their whims. They are loud and passionate, but unbridled rage, no matter how loud, blinds and destroys more than it sheds light and builds.
The core values of the Republican Party are a sham and a scam. Remember that in the past century the only two times that the entire world economy has collapsed were also the only times in the past century when supply side Republicans held both houses of congress and the White House. During the progressive era both parties were progressive. Ike warned the Republicans not to go back to supply side and he was talking directly to Fred Koch whose John Birch newsletter had called Ike a communist. Now Koch’s sons own both the Republican and Libertarian parties. Paul Ryan is a fool.
And get voted out as Speaker the very next week. That’s the point here, the basic power dynamics didn’t change. Indeed, I would argue that they are probably worse for Ryan than they were for Boehner because Ryan doesn’t possess the skill and experience at wrangling votes that Boehner had. Which invariably means that somebody else is exerting their ability to do that…and they are on the “other side”.
This issue specifically, is why Ryan can’t seriously consider accepting a nomination for President. Trying to manage the House, and continually failing because of the same reasons that Boehner failed, is why he won’t be able to mount a successful campaign in 2020. The Speaker is perhaps the worst position to launch a Presidential bid. It becomes immeasurably worse when you can’t actually manage the House.
