Bloomberg should have also said…
“Belive me, I’ve run the numbers and I’m a more household name, don’t f~ck us here man!”
This message is to all those “Never Hillary”, vote Jill Stein geniuses out there. Don’t give Trump any more help!
Ah, Mike Bloomberg. This is what Republicans used to look like.
I’m not convinced we really know what (if any!) constituency would be excited by or activated for Schultz. I don’t think it’s a priori obvious that his entrance would benefit Trump – it might, but it’s being taken as axiomatic for no reason.
I do know it’s too fucking important to defeat Trump than to dare find out. Hopeless vanity third-party runs are breathlessly idiotic.
Well good for Bloomberg. Add him to Coons and Castro and I think the message may seep in to the would-be contenders.
@arrendis Bloomberg was always a Democrat. The Republican mayor of NYC role was a side trip.
I have to say that while I was not the biggest fan of his policies as mayor of NYC, his work with Everytown for Gun Safety has been very constructive.
Howard Schultz’s campaign is being put together by former McCain campaign manager Steve Schmidt. This is a Republican campaign to screw Democrats. Make no mistake about it.
This is Martin Longman’s take:
http://www.boomantribune.com/story/2019/1/28/124511/350
"If the Democrats defy my expectations and nominate an economic moderate, then I’d agree that Schultz’s candidacy would hurt the Dems. More likely, Schultz would serve the same purpose Wallace served in 1968 and Anderson served in 1980. He’d serve as a way station for people who want a change but are too set in their ways to change parties.
In 2020, I see little prospect of any significant number of Democrats going with any third party candidate, but the ones most likely to do so are not to the left but in the middle. Schultz would prevent them from voting Republican and he’d attract Republicans disgusted with Trump but either constitutionally unwilling to support a Democrat or just alarmed at the threat to their economic self-interest.
So, count me as preliminarily unconcerned about the prospect that a Howard Schultz candidacy would reelect Trump. I think the opposite is more likely true."
Just another narcissist trying to screw things up for all of us in order to feed their ego. If Schultz wants to be President, let him run as a Dem. If he wins the nom, go for it. Running as an independent is an exercise in selfishness and ego gratification. Nothing more.
Did someone say an independent to help re-elect Trump?
Why, hello there!
I agree, and frankly I think he can be more effective continuing that effort than he could be if he somehow became President, whether as independent or Democrat or Republican.
I don’t know… is HS’s fortune still predominantly bound up in Starbucks? Would mass boycott of his product make an impression on him? Asking for a country…
Thank you, Mr. Bloomberg. I don’t know for sure whether or not a Schultz run would help or hurt the Democrat. I just know I have no fucking interest in finding out.
I don’t know anything about this, but make no mistake the Steve Schmidt hates PP and the current Republican Party more than most of us do. There’s no way he’d be doing anything to help PP get reelected.
Indeed, I have had enough of 3rd party candidates for awhile
Forget it, dude. Hypothetical?

Sahil also reports that there will be an on camera press sec briefing at 3 pm today. Now I wonder what Sarah wants to talk about.
Thank you Mr. Bloomberg. However, it does alarm me that Steve Schmidt is taking on this assignment. If he sees problems with his candidacy possibly helping Empty Dumpty, will Schmidt be able to talk him out of a run? Personally, I do not think we will be able to kick around the current WH occupant in 2020, but we still need to be prepared.
His constituency in normal times would be 1) the kind of people who lift their noses at “partisanship,” and who enjoy GOP tax cuts but won’t admit it to themselves; and 2) the NY/DC press corps, which loves stuff like this: a “centrist” whose real job is to scold Democrats, all while drumming up drama and excitement in order to help them sell the news. Obviously, there’s a great deal of overlap between these two groups.
But these aren’t normal times.
I don’t know enough about Schultz, but that won’t stop me from commenting! Anyway, a non-politician businessman seems like he’d appeal more to likely Trump or republican voters and pull votes from them to me.
Schultz is one of the largest stakeholders of Starbucks.
