Discussion: Blasey Ford Lawyers: She’s ‘Horrified’ At Trump’s Mockery, Receiving ‘Unending’ Threats

I think the type was recognizable even in the primary grades, now that I think about it…

My heart goes out to Prof. Ford. She was trying to do the right thing, but the Right thing is trying to do her in.

Texas and everything west of Texas is populated by people with guns. The whole mountain west is armed, whether you’re conservative, liberal or not. Colorado, which is mostly blue, is one of the most heavily armed states I’ve ever been in. Ditto New Mexico which is blue.

They do make a huge mistake thinking they can run over us. And yes - they wanted and passed Stand your Ground laws and they may end up ruing the day they did.

I’m murderously furious - I’ve never been this coldly angry in my life. I have never fired a gun at anything ailve but by god I will if I have to.

Actually, there are things that can be done on the technology side, that would have the effect of stripping away some of the layers of anonymity (identifying source IP addresses, requiring digitally verified signatures with multi-factor authentication, etc), that could put some of the worst excesses back in the bottle, albeit at some cost to openess. Just knowing the region of the Internet some folks come from would tell us a lot about who and what they are…

I hope she and her lawyers are turning over to the FBI every threat she has gotten and there be a thorough investigation. s/

This. It’s a door they should really think twice about opening.

My apologies, I never meant to suggest that anyone is passive, neither the Trumpian GOP or those of us opposed to them. And I do not think I did, but if in any way it did come across so, I would like the opportunity to correct the impression.

Just more clarification, I was only speaking about the intent of the Trumpian GOP party. Their intent is malignant and violent, a violence they would not do themselves but would willing trigger because it serves their ends.

They have willing walked up to this edge before, saw bloody results and now walk up to that edge again. I have to assume that is what they want.

We cannot do much about the threats, other than hope that they are just empty words of angry little boys (no matter their actual age) and that nothing will happen since they got their nominee in the end anyway. I hope that Dr. Blasey Ford ultimately feels more positive assurance from the many of us who were deeply moved by her testimony, and appreciative of her personal sacrifice in making it all public. She did extremely well under very intense pressure. If I had daughters, I would want them to see her testimony to understand how quickly an innocent situation can turn dangerous, and if, in spite of caution and good judgement something like this does happen, this is how strong you have to be and can be. If I had sons, I would want them to see it to understand that nothing even close to his sort of behavior is acceptable, and no amount of fun makes up for the consequences imposed on some else’s life.

I am saddened to hear of your suffering. I guess that I didn’t make myself clear.

Clarence Thomas stands as the first known sexual abuser on the SC. Thanks to the GOP.

I’ve never forgotten that (and find it hard to tolerate that spineless Biden for not doing more to prevent that travesty).

ALL REPUBLICANS ARE THE SAME! They are, as I said above, evil people. For them, to increase suffering is a feature with desirable outcomes.

It’s been true and I’ve been saying it for a long time.

I’m quite puzzled about how what I said led me to be misunderstood by you in this way.
I had hoped to not give offense by saying that you are a nice person and comparing you to my spouse, who is a nice person and as a psychotherapist, professionally engaged in seeing the human nuance in others works very hard at being understanding.

My point was that efforts at seeing the human nuance in GOP politicians and their hardcore followers will always fail because they are evil people and incapable of decency or change. Hatch, Graham, Collins et al prove it.

A bit of background on why I feel so strongly about these issues:
My first gf, way back when we were young enough to be a girl and a boy, had been a victim of sexual assault; her experience and suffering opened my heart and changed my way of seeing a lot of things.

You really should not judge “white guys” on the basis of what we look like.

“Horrified” comes off as pearl clutching. I think a better response is to say it’s intolerable and be furious.

I have wondered the same thing - where is Avenatti?

Of course, but that won’t happen automatically. Social media giants had to be sued and hauled before Congress before admitting they welcomed millions of troll accounts and hundreds of thousands of libelous threatening ads to be placed because it was profitable.

Tracking down some of the perpetrators does nothing to heal the permanent wounds inflicted on our democracy or the mental breakdowns suffered by those exposed to a constant wash of hate propaganda. Those are forever and we’re all damaged.

Anyway, since Congress did nothing to stop it, it will continue for the foreseeable future.

hahahaha Knowing myself like I do = yeah it really is. And I know I’m a long way from alone in this.

I realize that’s what you are talking - you don’t owe me an apology. I just responded in the same vein with how I’m feeling about this.

How can we, as a community, protect ourselves?

I’ve seen a new nickname for Avenatti:

Opportunatti

I think he’s passed his sell-by date. Not sure he’s in the “helping” side anymore as the Borg have adapted to him.

No, I wasn’t judging you in the least and I really didn’t mean to come off that way. My point was that this administration is different. Yes, all Republicans are monsters, but never in my life did I feel like the president hates me first for being a woman and second for being black. I didn’t feel this horrible feeling of being under very personal attack during the W administration. I felt like they are horrible, awful, wretched people, but they weren’t so openly racist to the point that they’re literally inciting violence against POC and those who support us. I don’t think W ever said or did anything that would quite likely lead to some man raping a woman because he thinks he can get away with it. W, of all the dumb things he said and did, never sent millions of sexual abuse survivors into weeks of gut wrenching pain as they relived their attacks. While he continues to do all the awful things any Republican would do, there’s the added bit of absolute cruelty and hate that does set him apart and make him far worse. I’m not saying white guys can’t be great guys, but I do think it’s harder to understand the depth of the rage and, yes, pain his presidency is causing women and people of color. W, for all his many faults, didn’t do that.

Discussing the issues here sometimes walks a thin edge, it triggers a lot in a lot of people.

I hope the media makes sure that every GOP senator gets asked, on camera, as often as possible, “Do you believe Dr. Ford was just a hoax put up by the Democrats?” Make them own or disown this outrageous allegation.
