Sorry, if I had spent another minute editing, I would have gotten rid of that last line, as being beside the point. It is important to clarify my thinking.
The point is that the right wing has successfully transformed itself into an openly fascist movement, with Trump as the Sheriff-King. Some of the changes were incremental over time, such as the Cheney-Bush torture policy, anyone can think of others. And those increments of brutality, whether casual or horrible have led us to today.
You are right that Trump and his party say and do much worse than Republicans had before. Now, every Republican feels free to spout the hate of Rush Limbaugh and the neoNazis. And that is different and much worse.

Not just a girl/woman anyone not in the class was ignored. My oldest son defended himself after being sucker punched as he walked in a HS classroom. He was suspended for fighting. As a parent I was supposed to be notified, nope. A couple of days later I learnt the other boy received squat. That night was school board meeting so at open question time I asked why punish one not another and why I was never notified. Silence that night but a couple of days later got a call from vice principle to explain. He came right out and said that they did not want to place a negative note in the other boys record a week before end of school, after all Harvard might not like that.

Verified Internet sighnitures mean nothing. Facebook closed my account, used only for commets, because they instead I was not legit. I supplied everything they requested,not enough.
That’s because Facebook is incompetent, as well as evil. We handle Level 1 user data on my campus all the time, and the NIST-based security standards we apply to the associated processes ensure a pretty good level of authentication, authorization and validation. Now, not every Internet chat room will be deserving of that level of control, but as I’ve mentioned lots of times, even just flagging the general region your comment is coming from can tell you a lot about the source of a comment - e.g. “Southern California Verizon user” as compared to a “Tor-based Anonymizing site located in Belgium” (yes, that’s was a real thing for one person we were tracking a while ago) and so on.
So now throw in some new “notarized ID services” in which you present yourself to a designated notary who verifies your credentials and assigned you a digital certificate, which you could then use when you sign up for your anonymous IDs. If ever your account issues a death threat, a simple discovery process would allow law enforcement to strip away the anonymity as part of their investigation.
Let me add that I’ve been issuing warning about encroachments on our privacy since I first got on the Internet back in the '80s, but I now believe that we’ve reached a point where the current system has been weaponized to the point where it’s harming our democracy and we need to start doing something about it. I hope we can do it with the input of the privacy and security experts who’ve been looking at these problems for decades, but I also hope we use this current state of affairs to finally start to act.

NPR referred to Trump’s mocking of Blasey Ford as Trump behaving “in a way many took as mocking”.
NPR are the good guys of course. But this stupid namby-pamby soft pedaling of outright assholery needs to be rooted out of journalism. Fix the fucking journalism schools. Stop pushing out castrated apologists.

Mountain west, if you’re including Pacific NW, it’s not like that there. Lived in Washington for 40 years and never felt it was armed. I was on the West side of the Cascades but spent plenty of time on the East side.
In general, people there were not crazy.

It’s not crazy to have guns if you live in most of Colorado, New Mexico. Wyoming, Montana, the Dakotas = there are animals that eat people in those states. And people hunt for actual food to keep them going over the winter.
If a mountain lion has your cat, you are going to wish you had a gun.

Washington is not all coast. Two mountain ranges, Olympics and Cascades. Hunters of food in both. I’ve run into people in the mountains that are hunting for cougar, bear, and deer etc. The mountains in Wa. are very wild places where I’ve hiked for days and sometimes not seen another human. The hunters I wasn’t really worried about and never saw others packing guns.
I know that. But those are coastal mountains and so are the Sierras. They are not part of the mountain west that is part of the Great American Desert so I consider the coast the coast.

What is needed is for each woman who has claimed Trump molested or sexually assaulted her to hold a press conference every other day until Election Day and remind the nation what Republican President Donald Trump did. It should not leave the news cycle. It would be right out of the Trump playbook. Don’t let anything else headline the news. Let them speculate on how Melania and Barron must feel about their unrepentant, cruel husband and father. Let them ask Republican women about their loyalty to someone who could do what he did. Every other day. Let him call each of them individually “a hoax.” Let’s see how hollow it sounds after a week.
