Trump’s mockery simply represents the weaponized politics of violence by the GOP, a violence perpetrated by other GOP members at less amplitude. I find it difficult to get over the disgust to ask the simple question of why they would do such.
However, this is analogous to the “lock’er up” slogan the GOP used against Hillary. If Hillary Clinton was locked up for no particular reason, or actual physical violence was perpetrated against Blasey Ford, I believe the GOP would have little to no problem. While unreasonable and sick, politically it has positives for them. While they have never made it so clear that issues on women and girls fall outside their interest, it plays to their ideas on dominance towards women. The GOP might pull back a few days, as when journalist were assaulted in a mass shooting, but little else.
For perspective, would they act this bluntly against a white male? Of course not, the politically self-identifying “white male” is their base. This is a full-on assault on Blasey Ford as a woman and surviver of violent sexual assault that dared bring to their attention a point that might disrupt by one small step their political ends, because they trivially could have had another conservative justice. And this base of course does not include every white male, but those that see themselves as victims simply because they are white.
Questions, what other person besides Kavanaugh could they use to drive this politically self-identifying white male base? And would this particular segment of white males embrace actual physical violence? To the first question, few, may be none, and to the second, I have come to think so. The GOP knows their base, base in that would have blood, blood the Trumpian GOP seems ready to feed it.

I am not asserting their strategy is to foment large-scale armed physical violence. Frankly there are still many of the Trumpian GOP that thankfully would understand the problems there. And, you are correct, they are not that competent anyway.
But, triggering small-scale violence, for example what occurred to Heather Heyer in Charlotsville is exactly what they would consider a positive. They would say a few tut-tuts for a few days, then they would be back at a later date.
Like Putin, the Trumpian GOP want a few examples made of people that stand in their way, not all out war.

I’ve thought a lot about Ford in the last many days. I know the horror and disbelief we’ve gone through, but her coming forward has now turned her life upside down. I wonder if she regrets it? I hope there will be an opportunity for her feel better about it all and prove she helped make a difference to Democracy.

if you were alive and an adult, 36 years ago, you would know that women/girls making such a complaint against a boy/ man ‘from a good family’ , would have been ignored…by ‘good family’ I mean rich, influential family’…and he was a student at the prestigious JESUIT school…@@ unless you were ‘there’ , you have no idea what you are talking about…and this ws in the deep south,MARYLAND.

Yes, there have always been those who revel in being assholes online, as long as they can do it anonymously without fear of reprisal. It’s like vicariously joining in a video game shootout.
But the viciousness has amped up drastically since the age of trump. Frightening. I also suspect it is mostly Russian trolls, but plenty of Americans have been radicalized, too. It’s a new kind of mob psychology at work that goads unstable people and people with mental illnesses to join in the cruelty, sending borderline personalities over the edge.
This works well for Putin, because we have an open society dependent on unbridled social media and plenty of wedge issues to exploit. Now that trolling and death threats have become de rigueur, all controversial people are trashed mercilessly, and vulnerable people get trampled. The monsters have been released, and they cannot be caged.

I agree…I have had my gun for 40+ years, ever since I was single woman living in KENTUCKY…my father -in- law got it for me and taught me how to aim’ effectively’ and hit what I was aiming at… I have never had to use but I like that it is there and now I can ‘do’ whatever under the ‘stand your ground’ law.[florida]…the TRUMPTIRDS mistake quietness for passivity…quietness means we are thinking and planning…not going off half -cocked.
