Oh, christ; that’s so sad. Depression is a terrible thing. My condolences to his family.
I hope his mother stays away from all media.
Cue the conservative clanging rookery crowing about the mental derangement of BLM leaders in… You know the rest.
I hope he’s found the peace he wasn’t able to find here. That, and what @Doremus_Jessup said: the commentariat on the right will probably be in full, poisonous throat.
Rest in peace guv.
Rest in peace
MarShawn: your life mattered.
What a sad statement that this man felt he had nothing but his inner turmoil and that taking his own life was all that was left for him as a way to end his problems.
R.I.P.
Oh no. So young. Heartbreaking.
Rest in power young brother.
Another victory for the NRA.
sigh
A promising life lost to depression. Very, very sad.
I am sure to get some bad response to this but many decades ago several Buddhist
Priests in South Vietnam, where we had installed a Catholic minority Govt when the vast majority were Buddhist, decided to make a statement that went all around the world. To demonstrate that the minority govt was tweeting the majority like shit, these Priests drenched themselves in gasoline, sat down in the middle of busy intersections, and with world press avidly watching, set themselves on fire and isolated themselves while fellow priests kept firemen away from them. They never cried or screamed. I was barely 18 when I saw one priest do this, he was hardly the first, but it’s an image I have carried ever since. Did their suicides help bring down the minority Catholic govt-which went thru many coups while we were there. The entire Govt and most(not all) senior military leaders were so corrupt they could barely field a small force, which North Vietnam rapidly over ran. But bot a single domino fell to communism, rather we wasted 56,000 lives and untold amounts of money propping up regimes so corrupt that the majority of the population were more than glad to see N Vietnam take over- So my question is, do protests, where one protester takes his own life in a comment on the total failure of that govt to preform one of its most basic functions which is to provide for the general welfare of its people. When GOTP state govts(and Democratic govts also) have dumped mental health cases on county law enforcement making their Hal’s deaf to mental hospitals. And making it close to impossible for these people to get any kind of help and treatment that they need. The principle seems to be to everyone- out of sight, out of mind.
We have failed, are still failing to provide needed help. I can see that this gentleman needed help, will his killing himself on the steps of the state capital result in any needed change in the way that mental health is so rationed that only the wealthy can afford it?
When I was growing up one of my fathers brothers was in the local mental hospital. He was lucky, when St Reagan closed all the mental hospitals, since he was a VA WWII vet, he got into a group home where he spent the rest of his life
He was a sailor on the runs to the USSR delivering supplies. He had 3 ships sunk under him-not all on the same convoy-but the fourth time his ship was sunk it was too much and he suffered a massive breakdown. They had to keep him knocked out until his return to NYC? He was totally terrified of bodies of water for the rest of his life. Without the VA he would have been homeless as the entire family was too poor take him in and provide the 24/7 care and meds he required.
It is the media who should be advised to keep their distance but they won’t.
Actually, Faux News appears to not want to acknowledge this kid’s existence. They’re more concerned with pushing narratives about Obama’s budget proposal and Hillary losing NH. Frankly, both should be getting some coverage here at TPM along with this piece. Not eevery day all day can be all about Trump’s latest mouthfarts and the idiocy from the rest of the GOP candidates.
RIP, Mr. McCarrel.
Whatever ugly things the lowlifes will say about you, your life mattered.
Very very sad all the way around.
As has been often said: the good die young.
Yes and homeless. Very sad indeed
