Discussion: Bill Clinton Calls O'care 'Craziest Thing' While Touting Hillary's Plan

Why? This is something Democrats should have been talking about for years. The AFA was great for poor and working poor people. Terrible for the middle and upper middle class.

Medicare for all is the only solution. Sometimes the free market does not work. Medical insurance is one of those times.

No, we can’t and frankly Bill Clinton should know that more than anyone by this point. If he found it absolutely necessary to critique the current Democratic Presidents signature achievement a month out from a hotly contested Presidential election, he should have made damn sure to do so in a manner that would not allow the least bit of wiggle room for Republicans or the media to misconstrue his comments and if he couldn’t do that he should have kept his damn mouth shut on the issue.

Two things:

  1. CNN’s home page article about this event had Clinton criticizing the entirety of the ACA as “the craziest thing in the world.” Thanks, “liberal media.”

  2. Isn’t it interesting that the only part of the ACA that’s struggling is the part that involves the Republicans’ beloved free market?

He is still good about working the crowd, but like the old Bubba, never seems to know where the line not to cross “is.”
Woops, shouldn’t gone there.

He is an asset to HC’s campaign, but don’t be saying anything grossly negative that can be used in a Republican ad, for cryin’ out loud. He makes a good point about Medicaid buy-in, but blew it with the crazy comment.

At first, I thought what Bill said was a disaster, but now I think it was a set up for a discussion on changes that must be made to Obamacare. Hillary responded to a question about what Bill said, and she did quite well by taking the opportunity to explain why Obamacare needs to be fixed, not repealed.

Sorry to disappoint ryanp. Live in NC and we have our own problems here. Good luck with your Amendment 69. CO legislators hopefully have the political will to make it happen. We didn’t have that at the national level, from the president on down. We deserved better then and we deserve better today.

This. It’s not that what Bill said was wrong that is the problem. He is right. But he could have put it in historical context – how real changes are difficult, time-consuming and sometimes even boring, how his wife fought it hard decades ago, how Republicans were always obstructionists, and how we finally reached the milestone achieved by the sitting popular Democratic president. He then could have explained how Hillary would build on this substantive element of the Obama legacy and make it better.

Instead, Bill was confused just a month before the general election, as if he was stumping for his wife in the 2008 primary and called it the “craziest thing.” WTF?

I don’t think he was ill-meant. Not at all. Content-wise I agree with him. It’s just incredibly stupid of him to utter “the craziest.” Leave superlatives to the Donald, Bill. You should make a positive case for your wife and Democrats.

So you’re finally conceding. Thanks Les, I know how hard this is for you.

put a sock in it.

Les? Is that you?

Could be age catching up to him, or his style becoming shopworn.

Did you hear the memorial for former Israeli President Shimon Peres? Both presidents Obama and Clinton delivered eulogies. Obama’s was inspiring; Clinton’s seemed cloying and hackneyed by comparison.

I didn’t hear, but I’ll take your word for it. Thing is, back in middle school we used to talk about how if someone really did well on a test that he or she had “wrecked the curve,” set the bar for high grades that much higher. I’m afraid Obama’s done that for orators for the next 20 or 30 years. He’s just that incredible. We have to let him go as President, but I do hope he’ll make a speech occasionally as the years go by.

Agree, I’ve listened to some of his speeches dozens of times. Some of that is to better understand how he connects various ideas and images into a larger theme, and sometimes just for the sheer pleasure of the emotional response.

While this is probably not helpful, he’s not wrong. As a freelancer who is going to lose coverage through the Freelancers Union at the end of this year and who doesn’t come close to qualifying for a subsidy, I can say that the prospects are grim. And I only signed up with the Freelancers Union last year. I don’t want to have to worry about, think about, or spend time on this shit every year.

You know the “craziest thing” bill. Hillary worked her butt off trying to get universal healthcare back, when was that again? Oh yeah, the 90’s. Yet someone, who was that again?..threw her under the bus.

Please shut your hole, you are not helping!

Why shouldn’t he have said this? Because his wife is running for president, and the election is in five weeks.

If you want to call it a mess, then sure, it’s a small fraction of the mess W left him.

Agreed - for sure. But what’s pushed to the back burner this past year of politicking is the state of the economy. In about two week (or sooner) we’ll get the 3rd qtr GDP numbers. The previous three qtrs averaged at 1% GDP. Let’s see what this latest qtr comes in at.

So the “mess” I was referring to was the economy. If it comes in again at about 1% she will be in up to her neck from day one. At least she has lots of experience. It’s no wonder Obama was overwhelmed and scared.

Yes, I concede your delicate delusions must be protected.

Yea. It is still a mess, (thanks McConnell) buy nuthin’ like the mess left to him. Anyone thinking otherwise is lying to themselves.
