Discussion: Biden Seems To Be Wavering On Campaign Launch, May Be Postponed

I don’t think he’s smart enough to not run. Entitlement is getting in the way. And yes he is toast as soon as he announces. Can still see his smug fucking face while leaving anita hill to twist in the wind. Shameful. And leading the charge for the banks and Republicans on Bankruptcy legislation. Somebody put a name tag on him and leave him at the dog track.

I would also add that Joe coming out for impeachment would have a big societal impact b/c, as I sketched out in a hypothetical speech above, it would tie the fight against Trump to more familiar challenges in our nation’s history. One of the paralyzing aspects of this presidency is that we’ve never faced corruption at this level ever. Trump is the textbook POTUS that the founders feared. People don’t quite know how to conceive of it, rationalize it, place it in historical context or fight it. It’s all new at this level. Joe can make it more familiar to us. It’s another major challenge of the type the country has faced in every generation. It just takes a different form, but it’s all about defending the nation and building a stronger and more perfect union. There’s a great message there for Joe if he is able to seize it.

I am confused. How can you impeach someone based on a report, no evidence. The report is not evidence, but shows where the evidence is located. I think most of the people who do not support impeachment is not stating that Trump does not deserve impeachment but need evidence, like any court case, evidence to support that judgment. Please provide the public with the evidence that would support this judgement. That is the job of the committee chairman’s to provide this evidence, and if the facts support impeachment, then impeach. Pelosi is just saying “give us the evidence and we will impeach” which is a reasonable and correct action.

No disagreement there, although I suspect that he exceeds the limits of their imaginations. (Of course, they also weren’t thinking of anyone other than white male owners of property as having the right to participate in the selection.)

I was recently at Mount Vernon, and in the museum there, one display shows a very realistic figure of Washington sitting on a throne, dressed very much like George III, and wearing a crown. That image fades to one of Washington as he actually was a president, one who voluntarily let power leave his grasp. The image with the crown was unexpectedly disturbing, perhaps with the current circumstances in mind.

(It was also a constant thought in the back of my mind, amidst all of the high-flown and patriotic talk about freedom, rights, liberty, etc, that, at least for now, all of that effort has been thrown away on a cheap carnival huckster.)

Makes me suspect there’s some lingering doubt about whether he can really go the full eight year distance in the job and whether he really wants that job as Augean Stable cleaner.

Makes me also suspect the Berners will be floating a conspiracy theory about how he never planned to run and his fake candidacy is intended to steal support that rightfully belongs to Bernie and is all part of the Big DNC Plot Against Our Bernie by the end of the week.

Nicely done Khyber but remember, Slow Joe is gonna make it difficult for the youngins to continue as he sucks up finite $$ left.

On a cell phone so don’t expect a long response. And to think this is how 2 Scoops operates. Jeebus.

I don’t favor Joe (I’m Harris/Warren), but I’m just outlining a path where I think he would take a dominant, sustainable position in the primary if he came out for impeachment.

These are closer to the reasons for his hesitation, I suspect.

@khyber900

Are you by any chance floating a conspiracy theory here?

This confirms my suspicions that Centrists will be floating rumors about Berners floating a conspiracy theory about how he never planned to run and his fake candidacy is intended to steal support that rightfully belongs to Bernie and is all part of the Big DNC Plot Against Our Bernie by the end of the week.

So many layers of intrigue!

And such small portions.

It’s the new “Factual Diet” that’s taking the Centrists by storm!

Joe Biden has been included in polling results since before at least half of the field committed. The purpose of including him is to encourage him to enter and to make him more appealing to voters who want a popular candidate who hasn’t been labled “far left” by the centrist they see on Sunday morning roundtable news shows. “Yeah, Bernie seems like he has some really good ideas, but will they lead the country to financial ruin? Joe’s would be a more stable president with experience in the executive branch. And look how popular the polls say he is.”

I’m not denying the validity of your point. In this thread, I’ve been speculating on more of a ‘what if…’ hypothetical. History would suggest that your view is more likely to be correct than my hypo. I would be glad if that were not the case, but I recognize the probabilities here.

Sounds believable to me. Seriously. A progressive movement message from Sanders or Warren is the last thing the D Party centrists wants to run on. Think Progress has already taken a cheap shot. Owned by John Podesta and shilled for by Nerda or whatever her name is.

Understood and appreciated.

O why? Why is Bloomberg even thinking about it? I have trouble remembering he is a Democrat. I’m not kidding.

Predicting that authoritarians fully enmeshed in a constructed mythology of grievance and conspiracy will do the same thing they always do is not a conspiracy.

That’s a good theory.

I hope it’s correct.

I’ve always liked Biden, or rather, i’ve never disliked Biden However, when you size him up in the position of being our next president (same goes for Bernie), what do you see? Do you see the future of America? Or do you see very strong images of our past? Joe does have some very aggressive progressive positions on a large number of issues, but when you look at him and his approach to fulfilling the demands of public office, he fundamentally represents the old guard. Contrast that image with Sen. Harris, or Buttigieg, or Warren (somewhat), or Beto. What does that image of any one of them as our next president convey to you? The past, or the future? Where does the Democratic Party want to take America? I hate to say it, but in this respect, both Bernie and Biden are aspiring to an image of leadership that aligns all too well with the current baffoon sitting in the WH. I say that NOT based on any policy or vision they have, but only the image that they convey to the public. They are all old men! That is also not a criticism of their age, but only to the sense that they’ve been around for a long time. They have done (Bernie and Biden) a lot of good in their own ways for this country, but their time as leaders has ceded to a new generation. It is high time to welcome (and insist) on a new generation of leadership for this country. That begins with no old white men in charge! Young white men? Perhaps, but Biden’s time is over. Ditto for the other old white men in the race.

Because he already has everything else he wanted and could buy? (If we are feeling extremely generous, it may be that he feels that he is the non-left Democrat that the country needs.)
