Discussion: Biden Seems To Be Wavering On Campaign Launch, May Be Postponed

Really? I hope you’re right. Unfortunately, Sherrod Brown was the candidate to beat, imo. I wish he’d get back in.

It may be if it’s among the first questions you’re going to be asked by reporters or voters.

Easy enough to give a non-committal but Very Serious reply, I should think, especially for an experienced pol.

But what if that doesn’t allow you to stand out? Why should the 60% to 70% of voters who are shopping around not go for one of the other candidates, if your positioning doesn’t make you all that compelling or different?

I agree. Also would like to know what he thinks about the Kate Smith controversy.

He’ll also be able to directly tie Biden to Obama and Clinton, Trumps bread and butter campaign go to’s. He’ll never refer to him a 'Biden" it will be all “Obama’s best friend” and “Crooked Hillary’s boss”.

Not saying what Trump will or won’t say is a good reason to reject a candidate, the GOP is gonna call ALL of them ‘Socialist’ but only Biden will get the ‘Socialist buddy of that black guy and woman we hate’

I for one cannot wait until Trump blurts out some “homo” reference to Mayor Pete. We all know it will happen if Pete stays high in the race.

Well, if Biden does distinguish himself from all the other candidates by staking out “the best” position on impeachment, that would not necessarily be a bad thing – but I’m sure he is aware that support for impeachment, while not exactly low, has actually gone down in recent months and weeks.

And if one is making a purely political calculation, that is the key factor.

I hope it does not.

If it does, people will likely get hurt as a result.

It’s actually at a good starting point, around 40%-45% per Nate Silver. What dropped impeachment support was Pelosi’ stomping on it. Many Democrats are taking her cue. If she comes out in favor of it, there would be more than 50% support. I think 90% of Dems believe that Trump’s conduct warrants impeachment. They split on the political efficacy of it. Biden is one of those guys who could move the needle for Dems and Indies on this, and in doing so, he could cast himself as a uniter. You can reach out to Republicans and push Trump out of the way by saying that the nation’s inability to come together have to do with us being wrapped up in Trump’s criminality. Let’s get him out and then let’s find ways to work together. That’s a way to bridge pro-impeachment with Joe’s more collegial brand of ‘can’t we all get along’ politics.

36% in the last SSRS poll I examined.

Are you assuming a pun on high?

And it was as high as 45%-47% post Cohen hearing. It can fluctuate. It depends on the willingness to air Trump’s crimes out in public and the Democrats’ willingness to embrace impeachment, especially from the leadership.

I love Mayor Pete - can you imagine how much better our world would be if he was the POTUS as opposed to the POS we have now?

Does he need to win the primary to achieve this, or does being one of the vocal front runners get there?

Yes, it does fluctuate.

Pun… high… think I need another tea, because the obvious stoner pun is evading me here.

Being a vocal front runner does this. He has smart people like Ron Klain who support him. They can put the words together. He can sell it. If the senior statesman of the party comes out for impeachment, older Dem voters will move solidly behind him and others will respect him. You won’t lose points for saying Trump is a crook that needs to be dealt with.

I sense a much larger amount of optimism in your posts on this topic than seems to be the norm. Do you really think that there is a reasonable chance of this happening? I think we know that leadership won’t move from the current position unless some major new source of information comes forward (and perhaps even then). Are you just allowing a desperate sense of hope to overcome your analysis? Are you just hoping that Biden or his advisors are reading this thread?
