Discussion: Biden Seems To Be Wavering On Campaign Launch, May Be Postponed

Come on Joe, Piss or get off of the pot.

Something doesn’t seem right that he’s dragged this out for months and just can’t get everything right before he announces.

It’s a huge decision for anyone to make and especially for someone in his position. I am not surprised by, and I don’t mind, the wavering but for his own sake he should have kept it under wraps.

Four comments in, and “shit or get off the pot” has already been sniped out from under me!

All the other candidates are ready to advance the conversation. We’re sitting around waiting for Mr. Biden to rise from atop his hands. It’s a monumental decision, sure, but fifteen? other serious or serious-ish candidates have already successfully made it.

And it is not like running for president is new to Biden. It will be his 3rd time.

No previous nomination losers for me. I will thank previous nomination losers for showing us in the past they can lose so I don’t waste my primary vote on them.

I wish we learned that lesson on 2008/2016

It is hard to keep the idea that you might be running for president under wraps if you are a big name and the expectation is already there. I think Biden’s problem is that he really, really, really wants to be president (perhaps for the very best of motivations), but he really doesn’t want to have to run for the office to get it. From prior experience, he knows what a miserable slog a campaign tends to be, and how many mishaps can pop up to get in your way.

Bungling Joe living up to (minimal) expectations, while making Trump’s 2016 campaign look like the textbook case of organization by comparison…

This is a heavy over-generalization from a tiny sample size. That someone wasn’t the best choice in one year doesn’t prevent them from being the best choice in another year.

That said, just as we shouldn’t ascribe total value to past efforts, neither should we ascribe zero value. Biden’s past unsuccessful runs surely should be seen as a demerit.

I agree, the possibility was obvious. I meant only that his wavering should not be as obvious.

For what it’s worth, I agree.

In particular because the problems he had then will still be present in a new run. (It isn’t just a matter of running against a better candidate previously, which is easier to overlook.)

He should ride down the escalator in Trump Tower and announce it from the lobby.

Totally agreed – it’s not a pass/fail, and there is a wide range of perspectives to consider. Many of the Biden perspectives aren’t so good.

Yes.

I might also say if we are looking backward, we are looking at s loss.

This isn’t a good look… what’s underfoot? It appears they’re trying to manage or diffuse something… what is it? It must be big. Joe has been through a lot. I’m guessing there’s more to the hair sniffing neck rubbing shoulder massaging saga…

I seem to remember hearing from someone with reasonable access to Biden (I don’t remember who it was) that he wanted to be the last candidate to announce. That would seem to be borne out by what is actually occurring. If so, it was just another glaring example of poor judgement.

Edit: Ah, it was apparently Biden himself: https://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2019/04/06/joe-biden-2020-decision-last-person-sot-vpx.cnn (although he wasn’t the person I saw who said it)

If that’s the case, here’s hoping that he announces his run on Wednesday, November 4, 2020…

If you’ve read my previous comments you know that while I’m not a Biden fan, I don’t have a strong negative opinion, as I do with some other sandersdates.
Oops, did I write that? Shame!
That said, I don’t think Biden has a strong message. In fact, I don’t know if he has any message, really, except that he’s not crazy, and he’s experienced.
He needs to announce, and see what falls out.

Biden’s only message is “remember when I was Obama’s VP?”
