DeVos also said that states should have the “option” of allowing teachers to carry guns but admitted she had trouble picturing her first grade teacher carrying a weapon.

Imagine all the time and energy a 1st grade teacher would expend explaining to a bunch of 6 year old kids why the hell they have a Glock on their hip.

“Who ya gonna shoot, Miss Davis?!”
“Why do you have that?”
“Can I hold it?”
“Can I touch it?”
“Where did you get it?”
“Is it heavy?”
“Where do you keep it when you don’t wear it?”

Add in a few thousand other questions, you get the gist. Every day. Six year old kids. You tell them on Tuesday to drop the subject. Come Thursday they’re back at it. Sheesh. Yeah, I bet teachers are just dying to carry a gun.

Having taught, coached and worked on school improvement initiatives for 15 years in an under-performing public school district in a high poverty area, having been on the teacher union executive committee; having gone on to work more generally on initiatives for under-performing schools and at a state board of education; having gone to public school myself, as well as seeing my two sons excel in public schools; and having been on a public school district board of education…the appointment of this stupid, rich bitch as Secretary of Education I take personally. Uninformed, uncaring, unprepared, and ineffective. But, hey…it’s the achievement of her life. Fuck it.
