Discussion: Beto 'Sure Did' Feel A Bit Targeted By Other Dems, But 'That's Part Of Politics'

Beto did not impress me last night. I was really high on him to start but, he’s not ready for Prime Time.

According to Josh, Beto did better in the second hour, i went to bed a little after 10PM so my impression is just from the first hour and up to the Guns question

Knocking him out won’t free up many votes but it would certainly free up a lot of cash.

Beto would have been a better senator from Texas than those they have.

I still don’t get what people see in this guy.

He’s tall so he sticks out.

Kennedy-esque I think. Although I also think the people who are behind him don’t remember either RFK or JFK. So, there goes another theory. But the Press certainly does.

Other than being young and being a Dem from Texas (also without a Texas accent), I have no idea what he’s done even in his own home district that made him stand out. He talks haltingly and in such a rehearsed manner. Nothing spontaneous about him. Just a lot of progressive buzz words. Its still early and I’m probably being overly-critical. Eh.

Need. More. Coffee.

ETA: Also gotta say Morning Schmoe has the worst political ‘analysis’ or assessment of the debate last night imo. A lot of off-base stuff. Superficial nonsense for the most part.

I didn’t think he improved that much as the night wore on. I was a big supporter of his Senate bid in Texas, but he looks done after last night.

I think he can run for that Texas Senate seat coming up and win it. As I understand it, FEC rules allow him to move leftover POTUS campaign $ to that Senate race.

But we’re a year out from the convention, so a long road ahead.

I think MJ Hegar will be a strong candidate and a good senator. More substance than Beto.

People seemed so excited to have him run against Cruz. A different stage from this and tough to be in a match with 9 others. Don’t think he came across that well, but this is all a very tough sport, strong backbones and thick skins required.

Poor baby. The Republicans would eat this unqualified empty-suit alive.

If they were to do an elimination round I’d say Delaney, Ryan, Gabbard, and yes, O’Rourke have no credible reason to show up the next time. Probably throw in DeBlasio too even if he had a couple of good moments in the debate. None of these people are going to be Prez. so why waste everyone’s time.

Delaney and Ryan were given so much time and attention by the moderators. That was ridiculous.

Yesterday, 538’s round-up of recent polling showed O’Rourke in a solid second in Texas behind Biden (the other candidates, if I recall, were at best in the mid-double digits. I’ve also seen polling that shows something like 60% of Texas Dems would rather see O’Rourke run for Senate than for President.

As @timorwig says elsewhere, Hegar looks to be a strong candidate, but (if he sees his political fortunes lie elsewhere) O’Rourke might be even stronger.

De Blasio is like 8 inched tsller than Trump’s true height. I’d like to see them square off.

Thanks. I went to bed early so i couldn’t form an opinion after 10ish.

Sorry Beto, but ya just ain’t cuttin’ it

The problem I have is he is exactly the same every single time. His image and delivery seems highly rehearsed. How he sounds, stands and his body language has almost a step by step feel. And the content could be mailed in. I thought he was something initially, now he is just a guy running for an office he shouldn’t have.

He was always my pick as a possible VP with Warren. But I’m wondering now about Warren/Castro, with Beto mounting a senate run. If Beto could drum up the kind of enthusiasm he did last time, compounded by Castro’s influence, could they bring out enough voters to turn Texas blue?
