My guess is that he can’t afford to lose a second senate bid and TX is far from a sure bet. Seems to me that high-profile candidates like O’Rourke rarely win in red states. Maybe Hegar is a better choice to beat Cornyn.
“I sure did,” he said, when asked if he felt he was the recipient of some “incoming” criticism on Wednesday night. “But that’s part of politics and that’s part of the debate."
He didn’t impress me last night, but it is very refreshing for a politician to give an honest answer.
“Yeah, I felt like I got beat up, but that’s the name of the game. Anyway, I went out there and said what I felt needed to be said.”
When’s the last time you’ve heard a Republican say anything close to this?
Beto for TX Senate. ASAP
I’ve been pro-Beto all along, but he didn’t fare well on the debate stage last night. He wasn’t terrible, but a mediocre outing isn’t good enough for someone who showed such high energy and breadth of knowledge during his Senate race. This may not be his time after all. I hope he goes on to do great things in some other way, however: he has the heart of a lion and the dedication of a true public servant.
I’m sorry, but coming off of losing a previous race is not a winning strategy to winning a Presidential election. It’s the same reason I refuse to listen to any advice Claire McCaskill offers on TV about all the ways she thinks Dems need to attract and appeal to more Republicans and moderates from red states and not move anymore to the left, even though she herself couldn’t do it in her last election. Don’t take Claire’s advice, people…it doesn’t work, and umm, I think she’s proof of that.
You are so right. I tune her out each time she shows up to pontificate. She lacks standing.
In the TX senate race, he was a phenom. Tons of excitement and hope to turn TX purple.
There was a glimmer that he could be part of a senate flip. Came within a few points of Cruz.
He is a decent man, he cares about people and the country.
He isnt, yet, presidential material. Maybe he should run for TX gov.
When Whataburger went to Chicago, Beto lost his mojo.
Exactly! That’s why you can’t win Beto. You view yourself as a victim. People can see that attitude a mile away, son.
The only things I miss from the South now that I’m in the PNW: Whataburger and Steak and Shake.
I spent several years in Virginia a while back and was homesick for Texas every day. I missed Whataburger, chicken-fried steak and Tex-Mex food.
Saying that you’re being targeted or picked on is chum in the water for Trump.
It’s passive weakling speak and bully Trump would pounce all over this, if this was 2020.
Beto, you’re a little underdone. You need to go back in the cooker some more and come out in a few years to help lead the next crop of Democrats.
So Why? Why? WhatTheF?burger guys.
Drove my Chevy to the drive-thru but the burger was dry.
And the crew grilling the orders looked as if they could cry.
Singin this was the day the mayo died., this was the day the mayo died…
Apologies to Don McLean.
Yeah, when I got back to Texas, the burgers really weren’t as good as I remembered them. Don’t know if it was the burgers or my memory.
Tex-Mex (in the right places) is still awesome. I am getting too old for cfs.
To be honest, burgers have not be all that hot for decades. Changes in meat and processing took away the flavor. I am still looking for that old Tex-mex flavor out there. One thing that changed was the drop in usage of real mateca. And don’t get me on about cheese. There are good places out there, but the old flavors have gone extinct.
Matt’s El Rancho in Austin stays true (unless it has fallen off since I was there about a year ago.) Joe T. Garcia’s in Fort Worth works to maintain the standard. Just about anyplace in San Antonio still works.
Dude, I love you but you didn’t do that well and I don’t think you were targeted.
Don’t start that - just go home. This isn’t your election.
Being in San Antonio, I disagree on that one. There are a couple of Taquerias that were close but they are out of my normal range now. Plus one keeps getting major gigs from the health department.
Now Grumpy’s in Bracken does some interesting stuff, but that is a long haul out 1604 to eat at. (Shout out to their Carne Guisada). And Mia’s Grill has some great stuff, but they are very uneven across the board. I have always enjoyed La Fogata but I don’t place them as being Tex-Mex specifically.
Your experience there is more recent than mine, so you know better what satisfies your tex-mex jones in SA.
New Mexico has ruined me for Tex Mex.
It’s just entirely too bland and cheesy.
