Discussion: Beto Raises $6.1M In First 24 Hours Of Campaign, Surpassing Other Candidates

Yep. She’s back to gutting salmon, I’d think.

Maybe, but I also think that we’re about to find out how many guys have more than a fighting chance against a very unpopular president.

“He talks a lot and has no plans to implement anything.”

It would be nice if his detractors could settle on whether he’s going to do too much or do too little. Maybe they should talk amongst themselves for a while.

Buttigieg is also the candidate who’s dominating a discussion that’s supposed to be all about Beto, fwiw.

I actually wondered about that last night. Does White Male trump Gay for White Conservatives or Christians?

It’s funny since the big complaint on see on Twitter from the Left is that he’s White Male and “We” don’t want another white male for President.

Agree with all these comments.
I wish he could have found some intermediate stepping stone between House Rep and Presidential run.

I agree. Unfortunately, identity politics still matters. People need to see something similar to their own lives to feel comfortable electing a President.

I think one thing that helped Barack immensely with white voters was that he has an extremely telegenic family. A smart wife with professional accomplishment, great-looking kids. I think many white voters looked past the skin color and could imagine that family representing America in the White House.

People might elect a woman this time around, which would establish a “First Man” precedent for the partner, but I don’t think they’re ready for a male LGBT couple in the White House. He’s young though, and could have a shot later on when the country is ready for it.

Beto should buy a new skateboard and head straight to Nevada and skateboard down The Strip in Vegas. If he can surf,he should go straight to California and Hawaii after that.

Buttigieg is smart, pragmatic, impressively well-informed and articulate on a wide range of subjects (including international affairs), politically savvy, properly ambitious but not ego-driven, an excellent writer … I could go on. He makes a persuasive case that his tenure as mayor of South Bend (and his military service) garners him more relevant experience than “marinating in Washington.” What he needs now is financial support and a wider audience. If you believe, as I do, that he far outshines any of the other announced or potential candidates, pitch in with $$ and spread the word among your friends.

And if someone had insulted Bernie, the discussion would have been all about Bernie. It’s just the way we roll around here. OTs are never OT.

Shit. Someone just had to go touch the third rail…

Here we go…

When asked whether a gay candidate has a viable chance in this process, Pete’s answer is “there’s only one way to find out.”

Laughing out loud–for real.

I’m not willing to shrug and say, “there’s only one way to find out” after the damage Trump has done in last four years.

Pete has little taste for serving in Congress, for reasons that he’s cogently explained. VP is a better possibility.

It’s not a matter of shrugging, etc. He’s simply saying that the only way we can answer the question of whether a gay candidate is electable is for an out gay candidate to run for office.

Okay, talking third rail… how about religion? I was listening to NPR this morning, a story about nuns finally feeling brave enough to come out with stories about being raped by priests. Sickening stuff.

I know that at least the appearance of being religious is a necessary thing to get elected, which as an atheist I hate. But if Beto is going to self-identify as a practicing Roman Catholic, then I’d like to hear his take on this. He seems to be a smart, thoughtful guy, but it will take some powerful hand-waving to dance around the fact that the only real solution to priests raping nuns and boys is to get rid of both the celibacy requirement and the male power structure in the church.

We’re past the days of JFK when there were questions about dual loyalty, but if you’re gonna call yourself a Roman Catholic, then you can’t avoid this issue. In the #metoo era, he’d be safer running as a Protestant. Maybe it’s not too late to convert and accept Jesus (that version) into his heart. /snark

Actually I agree he has a lot he wants to do – the problem is he has no way to get there which is my point. He talks a lot but has no plans to implement it.

She never seemed ready the first time. She’s like a female Rick Perry, all clothing and and hair, but no mind.
