Discussion: Beau Biden Implored His Dad To Run For President Before His Death

Discussion for article #238988

the country would be better off with Biden values

Is there any good reason to believe the New York Times reporting something negative about Hillary Clinton? It might very well be true that Beau said such a thing, but it seems more likely that the Times is just trying to continue to grind its axe against the Clintons. And if Beau really did want his Dad to run for President, I don’t blame him for believing in his father, that’s very touching, but it would be bad advice. Joe wouldn’t win the nomination, and probably would come in 3rd after Bernie Sanders. It would be humiliating and tarnish his reputation.

Biden has a populist perspective that sees beyond the so-called “hot button” issues of our age. He is a pragmatist who can successfully work with, and when necessary, stare down the the extremists on both sides, but particularly those of the right wing. Biden is a long-term public servant who truly understands what that means. He would make an excellent president.

The country would be better off with Biden. The country would be better off with Sanders. Unfortunately the standard is not good values or a good stand on the issues, it’s “who would you rather have a beer with” vs. “first woman president”.

Yeah, I love Joe and I think he’d probably be a terrific president, but you’ll forgive me for not seeing the thousandth Clinton-trashing Maureen Dowd column as the thing that should open Democrats’ eyes about who their standard-bearer should be.

Beau Biden Implored His Dad To Run For President Before His Death

It would be a bit difficult for Biden to run for President after his death.

(Sorry, my inner Liberal Arts Major demanded to make an appearance.)

Remind me again how we got Clarence Thomas? It certainly wasn’t by Biden staring down the extremists.

Crowdpac methodology indicates that Biden’s record is to the right of Hillary.

Not a chance in hell I’d believe anything Dowd has to say, and the Times has already established that they’ll throw whatever they find against a wall and see if it will muddy up the Clintons. I, too, think Joe Biden would make a great president, but I also think the man has already given this country so many years of sincere and faithful service that he doesn’t owe it any more. Regretfully, I also don’t think he could win in today’s climate. Did anyone ever consider that Beau Biden might (or might not) have said his dad should run while he was suffering from a brain tumor? That father and son loved each other so thoroughly that either one of them would say whatever is necessary to make the other feel okay. Why won’t the jackals allow whatever conversations they had remain private?

In the wake of his son’s death, the country has reappraised Biden and concluded that he’s a mensch. We certainly could do worse for president. But I think if he got into the race against Hillary, it might well cause a politically dangerous fracturing of the Obama/Democratic coalition. So, I hope that Joe stays out of the race and continues to do his excellent job as Vice President, rounding up Congressional votes for Obama, making courageous speeches and speaking up for civility in politics. If, for some reason, the a Hillary campaign falters, the Democratic Party will come to Biden and so, I think, will the country.

the White House should not revert to the Clintons

Sounds like Maureen Dowd channeling William Safire more than Beau Biden.

Unless Liz Warren gets off the pine and runs, I am in any democrat mode. The worst democrat is 1,000,000x better than the best republican. If Warren changes her mind and decides to run, I’ll be a grown ass man carrying around pompoms! Proudly!!

To use Cosby’s Lawyer’s phraseology: a “guttural [sic] reaction” on your part no doubt

Yeah, well, Texas politicians always seem to be getting indicted (Tom DeLay, Rick Perry, Ken Paxton), but they never seem to get convicted. Wake me when George W. Bush and Dick Cheney are indicted.

Yes, he would, but he might make a bad candidate.

Paxton was indicted by a Republican DA in extremely conservative Collin County. He might as well report to court in jail clothes. He’s going down.

In the first place Maureen Dowd does not do reporting. Secondly, given the Times track record with the Clinton’s this is doubtful. Maureen Dowd has nothing better to do than try, like the rest of her paper to smear the Clintons.

You’re right. The White House reverts to no one (except in the case of Bush v. Gore). The people will put Hillary there.
