Discussion: Barr Slams Mueller Over And Over During Senate Testimony

I guess the Muellers and the Barrs won’t be walking into services together on Sunday.

““The difference is I used the proper standard,” Barr said.”

“I decided to play judge and usurp the role of the judiciary.”

***“If he felt he shouldn’t go down the path of making a traditional prosecutive decision, he shouldn’t have investigated,” Barr said. “That was the time to pull up.”

But what if Mueller thought that by pursuing the investigation he might uncover criminal conduct by those around Trump, or dealing with him? Should he have stopped in that case? Hmm?

***The senator then asked Barr why he had decided to issue a decision stating that there was insufficient evidence to charge Trump with obstruction, when Mueller made a different determination in the report.

“The difference is I used the proper standard,” Barr said.

Well, no, you used a different standard. You worked backward from the assumption that a president may not be indicted. Mueller was describing the proof, not the legal conclusion.

***Barr went on to imply that the Mueller probe was nothing more than a political broadside against the Trump administration, aligning the attorney general with the view taken up by conservative fever swamp over the past two and a half years.

“We have to stop using the criminal justice process as a political weapon,” Barr said.

No comment necessary.

***“‘Bob, what’s with the letter?’” Barr recalled telling Mueller. “‘Why couldn’t you just pick up the phone and call me?’”

Because I wanted my thoughts to be recorded accurately.

Barr was “snitty” as usual and in my opinion ripped to shreds by the senator from Hawaii. The newly appointed Committee Chairman Lindy Graham was his usual trump kissing self. Graham’s opening statement hours later was refuted by Barr of all people. He was so busy trying to find excuses for answers that he was visibly very pissed and looked very weak and ineffective to plead his case. And once again the award for pointless comments and a complete waste of time goes to ted cruz.

I found this very good video from Frontline PBS about the entire trump nightmare. It’s 1 1/2 hours but very informative and to the point.

Well, be fair.

Barr has his head so far up Trump’s Ass that it’s hard for him to hear the questioning.

I was only able to listen to a brief section of the hearing, unfortunately. The q&a with Josh Hawley. What an utterly depressing exchange. I came away with the sad realization that we are truly, truly screwed as a country. I kept up with the rest of the exchanges and didn’t feel even a smidgen better. The republican warped alternate reality is utterly irreconcilable with democracy.

The question I have at this point is if Rosenstein knew when he appointed Mueller that he wouldn’t be able to accuse Trump of any crimes and the whole thing was meant as a sham from the start. Barr continues to say Mueller could have gone after Trump if he found anything while pretending he doesn’t understand why that’s not true; as if this was all part of the setup to help Rosenstein land the plane.

But Mueller blew the whole thing by reporting all his evidence and not just the top-line summary he was supposed to give that couldn’t find crimes; which is why Barr substituted his own report and hoped that was good enough.

Rave on cat shit (Barr). Someone will cover you up! The “boss” has taken plenty of potshots at his “subordinate” today. That type of “leadership” says everything about Barr. Mueller has been professional throughout this ordeal; he came out of retirement for this task. At some point, the Marine Corp training and leadership skills are going to show through in a more forceful manner. The close combat skills will have Barr and the WH squealing like stuck pigs on the end of a K-bar. Sadly, there will be no physical component, but I’m pretty sure that Mueller will not take this laying down and will verbally slice and dice this cowardly AG during his testimony. I couldn’t watch the BS today, but I will be watching when Mr. Mueller takes down the little puffer fish.

No, I would say he looks like a big fat liar.

Looks like Barr is feeling the heat. Even with full cover from the Senate Republicans Barr comes off as a snotty little toad. This changed no ones mind leaving the GOP in the hole again. Nice to know Barr will go down in history as the most corrupt AG in living memory.

Sooo … great day and all but when is Mueller gonna appear/testify in front of House or Senate committees? After today I would think he’s more than willing. But let’s wait and wait and wait … b/c it’s not that important, right? This is torturous.

Barr had a very bad day, despite the GOP attempts to say that his shit doesn’t stink.

Once Mueller testifies before the House judiciary committee—some time in the next two or three weeks, depending on when he is no longer a DoJ employee----Barr will look even worse.

As Ben Wittes pointed out, not everything dishonest said before a committee is perjury.
What Barr said was, however, deeply dishonest.

As to Mueller appearing before the House:

DOJ has, according to multiple sources, not agreed to a date, citing Mueller’s continued status as a department employee—since the special counsel serves under the attorney general.

This was stupid on Barr’s part…someone on or near the Mueller team released that letter right before his testimony, and you can imagine that it was meant as a warning that Barr needed to be honest about the situation. Instead, Barr perjured himself so bad he had to go back and correct his “misstatement”, and left plenty of lying and misdirection in his testimony, and came across as pretty dishonest and trying to cover up something.

And, on top of that, he insulted Mueller (and by extension his team), who were obviously trying to do a comprehensive investigation and dig up the truth. Saying that they or Mueller used the judicial system for political ends is going to piss them all off tremendously, and you can bet that they have backed up everything they put out and are prepared to show that if necessary. The Republicans will desperately try to keep Mueller from testifying to the House (no way Barr goes over there now, they will eat him alive), and are going to drive the Mueller team to the point that everything (that isn’t national security related) will leak out to the public. They won’t want to do it, but it looks like the Republicans will force them to find a way to get the truth out there.

The whole thing is maddening, really…here we have an actual case of a president upending the rule of law, and the Republicans, who continually complained about Obama doing that whenever he did something they didn’t like, just go along as if it’s perfectly fine to have a lying president cheat to win an election. They deserve to lose every election in 2020, too bad that won’t happen.
