Discussion: Barr: Comey Dug Himself 'A Deeper And Deeper Hole' With The Clinton Email Case

Was he in a hole in the first place?

In this current administration it’s become hard to see the holes for all the pits?

Strictly speaking he is correct…

Bet he doesn’t bring up the leaks from the NY FBI office though…

Barr is right only in the sense that Comey shouldn’t have said anything about Clinton’s emails 11 days before the election.

"It sort of shows you what happens when you start disregarding the normal procedures and established practice.”

But trashing the Russia probe in a tongue-bath memo to Trump in pursuit of the AG job is totally within norms.

(And don’t even get me started on Trump’s “disregarding the normal procedures and established practice”…)

Barr is only repeating what every federal law professional knows full well, Comey’s conduct was a disgraceful arrogation of self-righteousness. Comey can try to rewrite history via Twitter all he wants, no-one is interested in buying his self-serving tripe.

Comey (R-Obama Appointee) was another disaster from the Obama years. He probably cost Clinton the Electoral Vote and maybe the Democrats a few Senate seats, but Obama didn’t care:

“[Obama] held me back after one of the very last meetings I had with him, after the election, and said he didn’t wanna talk to me about any particular case, 'cause he was very scrupulous about that. And he said, ‘But I wanna just tell you something generally. I appointed you to be FBI director because of your integrity and your ability,’” Comey said in an exclusive interview with ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos.

“Then he looked me in the eye and he said, 'Nothing has happened, nothing, in the last year that has changed my view of that,’” Comey added.

Nothing happened.

“The whole sequence was very herky jerky and bizarre.”

Must be describing the tRump administration.

Yup, and that is the key to the whole mistake made by Comey. How is that investigation into the New York field office/Giuliana going? Anyone heard a thing in the last couple of months? Did Sessions shut it down? Will Barr if it has not already been done? Some reporting by the NYT would be good here since they fell for the leaks from the NY Division that there was no investigation of dotard campaign/Russian election interference going on. Redeem yourselves Gray Lady staffers.

I’m not watching the hearing - no CSPAN.

But from this description, it sounds like he’s not discussing Comey so much as whether Mueller can legally recommend charges (or even release his report to Congress?) without an okay from the AG.

“I’ve never seen that, and I thought it was weird at the time,” Barr responded, "

But you are A-OK with having a Russian stooge in office who is unfit to lead even by the low standards of your party. You don’t find that working for a compromised official to be ‘weird’ or ‘odd’ or ‘queer’ or ‘bizarre’ or ‘strange’ or ‘wrong’ ?

Yeah, that same passage leapt out at me too.

In an administration where norms and rules are shredded at a breathtaking pace, it’s astonishing that he’d want to point this out.

Except, of course, just like Lindsey, he’s also playing to an audience of one. And Individual-1 is hearing criticism of Comey. Music to his ears.

Because we all know McTurtle wouldn’t care if he’d buggered his own sister, as long as he’s corrupt enough to play McTurtle’s game.

Barr called Comey “gifted” but called his announcement of a decision on the Clinton case “wrong,” and said Comey discussing “negative information” about Clinton was “not the way the Department of Justice does business.”

Creating the fallacy of the Deep State to discredit and disqualify everything that was and wasn’t done with respect to their favorite punching bag, Hillary Clinton.

His response should disqualify him from any judicial appointment or Cabinet position, forever!

You’ve been waiting all week for that, haven’t you!
