No, Barr’s is also right (though to say that I distrust his motives would be a titanic understatement) that Comey violated proper prosecutorial procedures in July 2016 when he recommended against prosecuting Clinton while proceeding to harshly condemn her in a jeremiad that sounded more like an indictment.

Comey’s conduct was a disgraceful arrogation of self-righteousness.
Oh boy, that says it all. And yet, for whatever reason I still can’t fathom Comey gets rock star treatment. And even with his Billy Graham-like self-righteousness, leaving Clinton ‘to twist in the wind’, Comey had no answer as to why he never mention the FBI’s investigation of Trump and the Russians 6+ months prior to first commenting publicly on Clinton. And I can’t remember if a reporter ever pressed him on this. I don’t get it and I don’t like HRC one bit. But Trump fired him. The only good think he’s ever done. But then, the media welcomed Comey as an American hero. Crazy times.
The bits and pieces I’m getting from Barr don’t make him seem like someone Donald would want, unless he lying through his teeth.
EDIT: And I see from some more recent TPM articles that he may have been lying.

Yes. They got used by their ‘sources.’ Not only should the Times no longer have an obligation to protect their confidentiality, they have an obligation to tell their readers what happened.

I always thought that Trump didnt understand the criticism of Comey that was contained in Rosenstein’s memo and now Barr is basically endorsing that memo as grounds for firing Comey. I would like to see a Senator ask “what if the grounds stated in the memo are not the actual reason for firing Comey?”
he wouldn’t want to go into hypotheticals but its not a hypothetical. Trump has repeatedly demonstrated that he does believe those grounds.

“I knew it. I knew this would happen to me,” she said, now within a couple of inches of Mr. Mook’s ashen face. “They were never going to let me be president.”
So much stuff shouldn’t have happened and too few people moved to prevent it.

Barr seems to be taking an abuser’s position with respect to Comey and Lynch. The entire right-wing echo chamber (of which Barr is a part) demanded that Lynch – and the DoJ management she headed – have nothing to do with the FBI’s investigation of Clinton’s email server, because evil conflict of interest. So when Comey said he hadn’t coordinated his statement with DoJ management, he was acting exactly as the wingnuts had been demanding. When he didn’t recommend we Lock Her Up, suddenly those same wingnuts, apparently including Barr, got deeply concerned about DoJ procedure.

Let me make sure I got this right, Trump’s cronies to include Barr are justifying Trump’s firing of Comey because he was unfair to Hillary Clinton. Who do they think they are fooling? Nobody with an IQ over 0.

I do not disagree with what Barr is saying - - BUT the notion that this is why Comey was fired is thoroughly ridiculous. You had a situation where even Roger Stone was lamenting about how poor Hillary was treated so badly by the mean Mr. Comey. . . which lasted for maybe two hours until the story for the reason behind the firing went into its rat-a-tat-tat series of one different explanation after another.
So, unfortunately, Barr using this absurd explanation doesn’t at all look good here. It’s just ridiculous to argue that “bad cop, dirty cop, lying James Comey”, was fired because he broke DOJ rules and treated Hillary so unfairly. He was clearly fired - - as Trump admitted – to stop the (“witch hunt!”) investigation into Trump and Russian interference with the elections. Period. All of that other stuff (in spite of the Rosenstein memo) is a distraction from the facts that are in plain sight, and thereby participates in the constellation of lies which Trump is incessantly and expertly using to divert our attention from the truth.
The icing on their poison cake, of course, is that when you argue vaguely that the reason Comey was fired was how he handled the Hillary Clinton emails, it allows the hearer to think “because he let her get away with it and did not indict her” - - which I am sure is the take away for the entirety of Trump’s cult followers.
But back to Barr, this does not make him look like a man you can trust…
