Discussion: Baltimore Sun Floats Theory That 'Purge' Movie Fueiling Violence

Discussion for article #235721

Wow…this is original. This is like claiming that Ragtime was leading to loose morals, D&D was leading to more instances of Satanism, and how Heavy Metal was leading to Devil Worship! Rather than looking at the real cause why don’t we all look for a scapegoat. That way we can smack it against the castle wall until it sticks!

“The flier included an image of protesters smashing the windshield of a police car Saturday during a march spurred by the death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old man who suffered a spinal cord injury earlier this month after being arrested by city police.”

Sorry, but that’s deliberately written to make it seem like all that happened was the spinal cord injury. snip snip snip…

“…Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old man who suffered DEATH earlier this month after being arrested by city police.”

Great, so now I suppose the taxpayers of Baltimore have to fly goddamn Ethan Hawke in to save the day? Geez…

Maybe it was a reference to a gathering of bulimics at a buffet?

The violence is definitely not being fueled by Purge 2: Anarchy. That movie was unwatchable.

If you saw the movie The Purge you would know he didn’t save the day. It was in fact the homeless black guy who did.

I don’t even understand how any of this could be compared, much less inspired, by the movie The Purge. It simply makes no sense at all.

I wouldn’t suggest having a homeless black guy ride to the rescue in Baltimore. It would be a short lived operation on his part:

Script,
Page 1
Homeless black guy enters scene, stage right. Police observe allegedly furtive behavior.

Dialogue:
Officer O’Reilly: “Look, he’s got a gun!!!”

Commotion ensues. Camera pans to homeless black man holding can of Coke aloft. BAM, BAM!! Officer O’Reilly shoots homeless black man dead.

The US government once floated the theory that the films Triumph of the Will, Olympiad and the anthem Deutschland Ueber Alles also fueled violence, and had them banned in Germany in 1945. Was it also wrong to do so?

LOL … Eeeewwww!!

I’m watching a riot going on right now in Baltimore via CNN.
Very ugly…very
I have heard the word “purge” being used in a high school twitter account reported by a CNN journalist.
Very sad happenings on a day of a funeral for a young man who died in police custody

They can do that? Someone needs to have them deal with this person named “Adam Sandler”.

I had wondered if that was how Elton John got his playing method

Yep, it sure was. That’s actually the last scary movie I’ve seen in a long time and I was surprised how good it was. It included interesting social commentary on the wealthy preying on the poor and how wealth shields the rich and victimizes the poor.

It’s funny. Last fall, a high school kid posted something about plans for a Louisville Purge. Other kids then went around reposting his original post and commenting on the idea of a Purge and before too long it was the number one trending hashtag on Twitter. Before it was all said and done, on the day of the Purge, a bunch of schools canceled football games and planned activities, businesses lost money, and people stayed home. The local paper was sending out updates throughout the evening. People scared the shit out of themselves for nothing. Police made no arrests related to any purge. Our slogan used to be: Keep Louisville Weird. Indeed it is.

What did the country think would happen when it seems like every other day there is a new report of an unarmed black man being killed by the police and no one is held accountable. I think it’s going to be a long hot summer.

No: this is akin to the London “wilding” a couple of years ago.
