Discussion for article #226193

She was only 13 when Nixon resigned.

I think a good template for whether she is right or not is what happens to Christie.

What a SOP in turning a defining historical situation into a convoluted swipe at Obama. The decline of the media’s role in our democracy took a big hit in the robber barons era and the supreme court’s infatuation with corporate people and money.

She forgets “the press” had largely turned the page on the break in at Watergate and accepted the government’s version of the events. Except for Woodward and Bernstein.

So what. I was only sixteen, and I agree with her. Not with the other silly stuff, but I’d say journalism has taken a dive since then. We’ve got a lot more people who see journalism as a pathway to fame, or some kind of scam rather than as a goal in itself.

I’m sure a REAL journo like Sheryl would never go overboard on something like Benghazi…oh wait…never mind.

IMO that may be because there are a lot more people passing themselves off as journalists today. If you weed them out (which is a lot), I wonder if the few good ones are any worse today than the few good ones in the 70s.

Bob Woodward is a founding father of that state of affairs.

“Sharyl Attkisson: Journalists Have ‘Gone Backwards’ Since Nixon.”

The irony is that Attkisson said this on ABC’s This Week: that serious, hard-hitting, serious, truth-telling, serious, “Powerhouse Roundtable” of very, very serious journalists.

(Did I mention how serious they are?)

Of course, Cokie Roberts actually thought Attkisson was talking about other people, not Cokie and her clueless cronies on the weekly dung heaps of inside-the-bubble stroke-fest.

You’d think she’d be embarrassed given the recent GOP House-led report on Benghazzziiiii but no, she keeps digging.

Yeah media sucks but she’s no better. She wasn’t objective at all; she had a certain point of view and looked for any way to prove her predetermined theory. She got mad because her stories did not pan out with her bosses and huffed out of her position at CBS. She’s now on a mission to let everyone know what a victim she is of said media while simultaneously continuing her ODS.

“She then dove into an account of what she thinks would have happened if Watergate had happened in 2014.”

Unfortunately for Attkisson, we’ll never know for sure what would happen today because there has been no scandal rivaling Watergate during Obama’s term in office. Nothing even close. Only conspiracy theories about Benghazi and the IRS that make the Area 51 coverup theories she referred to sound plausible in comparison.

Well they certainly dropped the ball on the march up to Iraq2. I agree with her.

Woodward turned his early brilliant successes at actual journalism into a lucrative career as a Washington gossip columnist and talking head.

So, pretty much since Roger Ailes got involved. Is that what you’re saying Sharyl?

Woodward turned Mark Felt into money cow.

Fenced him in and only let him out at the end.

Okay, where’s the part where she tied this thing she said that sounds like something I agree with into how the MSM is in the bag for Obama and not properly investigating BENGHAAAZIIIII!!! and the scandalously scandally IRS scandal and the general yoke of tyranny under which we now all labor? Did we snip that off the way we snipped off the part of Hillary’s “rejection” of Obama’s foreign policy where she indicated she agreed with it in the Goldberg Atlantic interview?

She’s not wrong. She’s self-serving, but she has stumbled on a truth.

If that liar had been working at CBS during Watergate, she would have done everything she could to suppress the story.
