Discussion: Attkisson: Journalists Have 'Gone Backwards' Since Nixon Resigned

Where did this person go to journalism school?!!

Journalists aren’t supposed to wield power.

They’re supposed to report.

Wow.

And yes, I know that’s not the state of a good deal of present day journalism (and I hate to include Faux in that, but it is what it is).

Now it’s he said, she said.

And Sharon’s not a journalist.

And Walter Cronkite.

I think the proper phrase is the “scandalously scandalesque IRS scandal-lite.”

If Bob Woodward is the spiritual founding father, the internet is the mother of invention.

It’s as if this particular edition of This Week set out to demonstrate all the different techniques the inside-the-Beltway media clique has devised to move journalism “backward.”

Attkisson practices the textbook definition of yellow journalism — with a partisan twist. Her biggest scoops were slanted conspiratorial version of Fast and Furious, her promotion of canards about vaccinations, and Benghazi.

Why is Nancy Radic promoting a discredited, self-promoting, partisan controversialist as some sort of muckraking martyr (“people like you keep pounding”)? Even if it were arguably true, what — other than whatever inside-the-Beltline cronyiness they have — justifies lauding her as ABC is supposed to sell her book? How revolting.

Anything this woman says should go straight to the information dumpster. If she is going to be on This Week every Sunday I am going to stop watching or just erase the parts where she is talking.

Why is TPM bothering to pay any attention to a Journalist that has been proven to be totally and utterly delusional? IMHO this akin to making headlines out of Trump’s “sage” one liners.

There is no such thing as broadcast journalism–a point pretty much illustrated by the guests on this show. BTW, if I recall my J-school education correctly, journalists report the news, they don’t make it. And for the record, Attkison is to journalism what Kim Khardashian is to modesty

Resign before he was impeached and it would have been successful she means.
Nixon had it coming and he was the breeding ground for today’s supposedly conservative politicians that today’s supposedly impartial reporters cover.

Her backhanded attack on President Obama is as transparent as her weak ass journalism. She threw herself in the stinky end of the pool and there is no getting that stink off, ever. There also is no coming back from hack haterville. She needs to accept what she is and who her brethren are.

Nice turn of phrase there mbdeane.

“And then at the end, Nixon would go on a popular late night comedy show
during which time he would humorously refer to his attackers as people
that were political witch hunters who believe in Area 51 type
conspiracies,” she concluded."

I was an adult when Nixon resigned and I do not remember him on any comedy show at the end of his Presidency. I do remember him in his 1st term going on “Laugh-in” and saying “sock it to me?” as a cameo appearance. But there was no humor Nixon held for those who opposed him. Revisionist history strikes again.

HAH! The guy to Nixon’s right in the video splash looks like me at that time: same hair, same glasses, same skinny body. (I never owned a business suit though.) My wife was nearly called an ambulance I was laughing so hard. My how we we’ve all changed!

Has she not seen Network? It’s all explained there.

Filling time, collecting paycheck. How boring. Why don’t you care?

She is a grown-up now, and she is right – just 7 years late. That is the deal with Cheney/Bush, who deserved impeachment more than Nixon did, because they actually started a WAR based on lies that they knew to be lies.

I mean, this actually happened during their administration. Remember Alberto Gonzales and that idiot Myers woman whose name I can’t remember:

"I like to think as what would happen today during a Nixon type scandal, Nixon would basically refuse to turn over tapes to congress, his aides would refuse to testify to congress or would take the fifth or would lie to congress with fair amount of impunity," she said. "Woodward and Bernstein will be controversialized on social media by special and political interests."

Glenn Greenwald, anyone?

That said, she is a tool, and is trying to turn this statement against Obama – she is right about journalism for the wrong reasons, and she is unable to see that she is a large part of the problem herself. One problem with journalists is that they tend not to have any objectivity these days, especially where they are concerned. I wish they could have a teeny tiny bit of objectivity about the subjects on which they report.

I agree with her because what she’s saying happened action for her alleged action, word for word, during the Bush Administration. She’s right. This doesn’t give her a free pass for lying about CBS and running to FoxNews.

What journalists?

“Woodward and Bernstein will be controversialized…” WHAT?

Did she just describe Reagan? At least everything but the late night part.

She too has a huge butt?
