Discussion: At First White House Press Briefing, No One Gets A Question

So much for freedom of the press.

They may well have to publish all articles under pseudonyms to avoid Trump’s irrational anger and to avoid lack of access.

Truly a revolting and disturbing development.

When they just lie and lie and lie, I kind of wonder if it might be better to not ask questions (not waste the time) and just get information from more reliable sources.

Well if this White House Press Secretary was delivering a message directly from the president, then you can tell him, THIS VOTER REJECTS HIS MESSAGE!

WTF cares what happened yesterday! Deal with it! Your anger was really about the WOMEN’s MARCH around the WORLD, TODAY!

You bunch of silly goons!

I get very claustrophobic in crowds - and was one of 250,000 in Chicago. I had a spot by a fence so I could look out into an open area to keep from feeling too closed in, but gave it up to a young woman who was starting to have a panic attack. The crowd was huge and intense. I have no regrets about putting myself through it.

Thank you for being willing to participate. We all have to move beyond conversations with like-minded people and take a public stand for what we believe in - you did just that.

I think the whole purpose of Trump’s approach to press is to get the press to a point where they are a grateful to be in the presence of the Hallowed One and to be grateful they have not been thrown out of the White House.

Given that corporate interests that control the press including creepy and senile gropers and sexual predators like Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes, who are sympathetic and share President Trump core values, it is not going to be long before the White House press corps bends over and cowers.

I don’t think “declaring war on the media” is dangerous in and of itself. Many Americans distrust the news media, or at least the “mainstream media,” and Trump milked this distrust to his advantage during the campaign.

The bigger concern is if he is getting so defensive and combative about something as trivial as the number of people who attended his inauguration, what will he do when he gets criticism over fiscal policy decisions that backfire? Or a military venture that goes awry?

So, every press conference is going to be a temper tantrum? It is not irresponsible to point out stuff like this and it is the presses job to hold people accountable. They do a crappy job at times and overfocus but who heard Trump complain when anything about Hillary came out.

Even fake news was the God’s truth. Now, just questioning his “greatness” is worthy of a tongue lashing. This is going to be bad fast. A president with a god complex. And not hte subtle one that past presidents have had.

I just deleted my White House app and my phone never felt better. Liars, spin doctors and frauds is the new administration.

The danger arises from the fact that Spicer lied to the reporters. That sets the stage for the journalists to not trust what the White House is telling them. This was a key element of the “Watergate” debacle and a major part of why that whole thing turned out so badly. At its base, “transparency” depends upon the reliability and accuracy of the information that our leaders put out. Let us remember, the inconsistencies of the info put out in the aftermath of Benghazi significantly compromised Hillary’s credibility and likely contributed much to her failure in the election.

The problem now is that it is not just the media, but the people and foreign governments who have reason not to trust this administration, and if today is any indicator, that will get much worse. And that is the stuff that too often produces wars, or worse.

The thing is, even the lying and spin doctoring is distinctly third-rate, like everything about trump. The administration can’t even hire competent liars and good spin doctors.

The next time that idiot calls a press conference, MSM should reply: send us a text when it’s over and we will decide whether or not it’s news worthy! Ignore his old ignorant behind and start doing your investigative reporting on him. I bet you will get more informants within his empire than you can write about .MSM need to understand that he;s not their god, their daddy or their friend. They are obligated to report truth to the public NOT that idiots fantasies!!! Ignore him. In a few days, there will be more people, working with him 24/7 and being in close quarters with this idiot, who will have to tell somebody about his psychotic behavior. Just for their own mental survival.

he’s NOT going to tell the truth about anything anyway. Personally, I’ve read all I want to read about all the lies he tells. So IGNORE him!!! Find other ways to get the scoop on him and his world (like the old journalists). If MSM had done that during the campaign, he would only be a footnote by now.

BBC’s take Trump claims media 'dishonest' over crowd photos - BBC News

In his first ever White House briefing, Sean Spicer rounded on reporters in a manner few here can remember.
Echoing President Trump’s charge of dishonesty earlier in the day, Mr Spicer zeroed in on reports that the attendance at Mr Trump’s swearing-in ceremony had been lower than that for Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2009 and 2013.
Mr Spicer went on to issue a thinly-veiled warning to reporters covering the Trump presidency, saying the new administration intended to “hold the press accountable”.
Precisely what he means by that is unclear, but the statement has left many veterans of the White House press pool deeply concerned.
Ultimately, of course, it begs the broader question - what will prove most unpalatable to this new administration: the messenger or the message?

I should’ve guessed Baghdad Bob’s understudy would turn out to be Sadr City Sean.

Wiki: His (Sparkle’s) wife is the top communications officer at the National Beer Wholesalers Association.

Can you blame her?

NO - that’s exactly what CANNOT happen - with journalists and also citizens. It cannot be our mindset to consider the reactions of Drumpf and his toadies and then adapt our actions to avoid their anger.
We cannot adopt the mindset of having to keep the alcoholic father from getting angry.
