Discussion: Arkansas Voters Complain About Quizzing By Poll Workers Checking IDs

Discussion for article #223015

Disgusting. I can’t believe Republicans think this is no big deal.

Yes, once verifying IDs was law, the verifiers become powerful players in the cause of suppression.

So, now that voters can be “verified” we’ll have additional “verification” and “checking of the correctness” and a bunch of that old Confederate slave state poll tax RACIST GARBAGE.

Voter suppression: racism, classism. That’s all it is. Racist DICKS who want to fuck things up.

How much did that slow the lines down? Sounds like a coordinated effort to discourage voting.

Apparently we will need Second Amendment remedies when some over zealous poll worker causes voters to need to stand their ground. Can I carry in Arkansas precincts?

And with some people, you give 'em a little power, and they become bullies.

Disgusting is the word. And these same people would talk about traditional values. If trying to rig elections is an expression of traditional values you can take those values and go straight to hell. That’s not how the game is played, you fucks.

Did they succeed to suppressing the voter turnout? Was their ultimate goal reached (>75% of the counted votes being republican)??

I wonder if it’s everyone being asked, or only some people. Makes me think of the old “literacy test” movement.

Gee… Ya’ think?

Of course it is designed to intimidate and slow, if not totally stop certain targeted voters.

Some folks here are disgusted at Republican “dirty tricks” of which this is just another example. But, they are not, nor will they ever be ashamed. This is situation ethics at its worst.

Dirty tricks, including racially-motivated abridgement of suffrage are just an extension of “lying for the lord” – perfectly acceptable because in their minds, theirs is the higher morality, the higher calling, the greater intellect, even. The prospect of governance under the aegis of Democrats, socialists [i.e., perons other than laissez-faire capitalists], secular humanists, women, minorities, etc. is, in their eyes, an unacceptable moral state of being. Cheating is an acceptable means, sanctioned by God, of “saving the nation” from the secular humanist-socialist hordes.

“I can tell you that poll workers, from our perspective anyway, poll workers were trained on the correct process,” Clay said.

He means exactly what you said. It’s “the correct process” to pull off a coordinated effort to discourage voting.

I wonder if they were only asking old people with white skin, or the white people that look under age for drinking… or …probably not. Probably people with darker skin color, or less well dressed, or with a slight accent got asked more frequently about their address, etc. I’m willing to bet.

I thought John Roberts had assured us this kind of thing didn’t exist any more.

Oh…and Anthony Kennedy also told us that there was no possibility of corruption or collusion under Citizens United.

I don’t know who to believe any more.

That there is no way to know for sure is exactly how they like it.

The Roberts Court has unleashed the racists again, and they are ready to suppress votes!

doesn’t sound like clay has documentation on the “correct process” on which poll workers purportedly were trained

Shouldn’t your middle name* be “Vaughan”?

*as in, first word of a two-word surname.

The correct answer to these questions would be: That’s none of your damn business.
