Discussion: AP: Sanders Running for Prez

But this time with an accent straight out of Brooklyn.

A good caveat. She’ll be 69 in 2016, like Reagan was when elected.

I don’t know how this claim can be made. The fates of life get increasingly harsher - and more common - with each passing year. Hillary is not immune. None of us are.

Its good to have some backup.

If she were a he, would you say the same thing?

Your posts are increasingly off the wall.

We’re gonna need a bigger platform.

Exactly, he as no chance to win, but it is VERY important that he is heard in debates.

Not so far to the left that she loses, though.

Looking at some actuarial tables, a 69 year old has a 2.2% chance of death in the following year. So negligible, but not infeasable. Is it worth the risk of no one else having a campaign apparatus set up? Their is also the greater risk that the right wing media is really whipping up hate against Clinton. Obviously these are not reasons to vote against her, she is perfectly able to serve as President, as she appears to be in excellent shape, physically and mentally.

Indeed. Sanders would be 75 in 2016.

This was an issue with McCain in 2008 as well. He was 71. He certainly looked tired by the end of the campaign and his judgement was painfully faulty.

Its risky running elderly candidates like Sanders or Clinton.

Look at Reagan and the onset of dementia.

The greatest known risk factor for Alzheimer’s is advancing age. Most individuals with the disease are age 65 or older. The likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s doubles about every five years after age 65.
What Causes Alzheimer's Disease? | Alzheimer's Association

Cancer rates increase quite steeply as we age. At 65 a woman is nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed with cancer as someone 45.

For every decade after 55 the risk of stroke doubles. Age is a genuine concern and will be raised in the general.

It’s not that i don’t know that Sanders hasn’t got a snowball’s chance in hell of winning, but I want his issues on the table.

We have to confront income inequality and the deleterious effects of concentrated wealth on democracy.
I want somebody passionate about it.
I want somebody yelling and pounding the podium.

And I want the media forced to cover it.

As long as he SUPPORTS and WORKS FOR THE ELECTION OF whomever wins the nomination, I’m all for it.
Push Hillary to the Left as far as you can Bernie.
If he pulls a RALPH NADER and runs a 3rd-Party campaign out of hubris, it will guarantee a Republican President as all the ā€œholier than thouā€ left-wingers ā€œprotest voteā€ for him (which some will do anyway.)
Do you REALLY hate Hillary enough to elect Scott Walker as President (who will appoint David Koch Secretary of the Interior, Rick Santorum Secretary of Education, Bob Corker Secretary of State, and Allen West Secretary of Defense?)

Bernie Sanders would never pull a Ralph Nader, I’m sure.

How true.

Which goes back to the general tenor of remarks about the MSM amongst us.

As much of a FossilFuelNews outlet the MSM is, the MSM commands a sort of ā€œrespectā€ (for want of a better word) among the general public. The MSM creates a reality which serves a function in a very large, relatively young country like the U.S.

And the way the MSM goes about its business, I regret THAT part of its function tremendously.

There’s no such thing.

I could have written that comment.

And for every year before that, immaturity and inexperience are qualities which we seriously DON’T need in the office of President of the United States of America. Then we have those like John McCain, who ran at age 71, choosing the most idiotic EVER person to be a heart-beat away.

Let’s face it. Age is relative. 60 is the new 59. Some people mature before others because of their intelligence, genetic makeup, and life experience. Some people are immature no matter their age…does anyone here think that Ted Cruz will EVER be a thoughtful statesman? NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

So let’s grow up and get rid of the potential assumption of what MIGHT happen once a candidate actually takes the next trip around the sun. If we were serious about this issue, the SCOTUS would not be a lifetime sinecure, WHICH I DON’T THINK IT SHOULD BE, BUT NOT BECAUSE OF AGE – BUT BECAUSE NO ONE SHOULD HAVE A LIFE-TIME JOB THAT THEY CAN STAY IN UNTIL THEY DECIDE NOT TO, BECAUSE THE VERY IDEA CORRUPTS THEM!

Bernie Sanders is older than Clinton. He’s 73.

I’m sure there will be some money there for him. Not sure how much if O’Malley jumps in. $$$ are important for advertising and staffing both the national campaign organization and state organizations. I’m guessing the PCCC and DFA will raise funds for him. If I were still on their email list,I’m sure I’d have a Sanders fundraiser email from one or both of 'em by now.

On this point, I agree.
