As far as I can tell, none of this really has anything to do with anything Hillary did. At most, this suggests that someone else screwed up by not classifying (and marking as such) information that should have been classified. Whether the should-have-been-classified e-mails were on Hillary’s server or a government server (not necessarily any more secure, and maybe less) is pretty much besides the point.
So I’m not seeing anything here that moves any of this any closer to Hillary having broken any laws. But obviously that’s not the way it will play in the media, for whom the “Top Secret” label will be pseudojournalistic catnip.
As far as the timing of these new “revelations” (yawn), obviously a few days before Iowa isn’t great for her. But doubt it will hurt her much since Bernie has outright dismissed the issue, and in a very forceful and memorable way.***** And as far as the general election goes, whatever’s going to come out, it would be best for Hillary if it comes out as soon as possible, so that it’s “old news” to voters (and as well-debunked as possible) long before November.
*****Despite which, we now have a spokesperson for the Clinton campaign claiming that Bernie is running the most negative campaign of any Democratic presidential candidate in history.
‘Department officials wouldn’t describe the substance of the emails, or say if Clinton sent any herself. They also wouldn’t disclose if any of the documents reflected information that was classified at the time of transmission, but indicated that the agency’s Diplomatic Security and Intelligence and Research bureaus have begun looking into that question.’
…
‘Kirby said the State Department’s focus as part of the Freedom of Information Act review of Clinton’s emails was on “whether they need to be classified today.” Questions about their past classification, he said, “are being, and will be, handled separately by the State Department.”’
In related news, Major League Baseball has decided to begin calling the high strike once again. They are going back and reviewing the last several years and adjusting strikeout totals. Former White Sox slugger Adam Dunn has had his amazing 2012 strikeout total of 222 adjusted to 312. A MLB spokesperson said, “The players should have known at the time that a pitch at the letters was a strike”.
He was convicted for lying about claiming he had never discussed Plame with Judith Miller. While he wasn’t convicted of it, it’s extremely likely he was the source.
An important point that seems to inevitably get ignored whenever the emails come up - even if these were wrongly handled classified materials, they would be equally illegal if they were sent on a state.gov account, which is also unsecure. Having a private email and server is irrelevant.
Since they want to apply a standard retroactively even though what she did at the time was perfectly legal, they need to look at the previous sec. Of state under Bush who also used a private server to transmit and receive gvt emails. It was also legal at that time. Sec. Powell is not running for office but he did the same thing. So treat all past sec. The same.
Uh, Patreaus gave marked, classified docusments to his mistress, Yes there was the email server, but all of these communications as far as we know were with members of her State Dept. team - and as of yet, no one has produced anything that was considered classified at the time it was sent. Even the strip out article never says the material was classified, only that it was on State Dept. headers and therefore needed to go through the entirely spearate and cumbersome state department comms network. They were talking points, for christ’s sake, as in things she would be telling the public.
I’m sorry, it’s just not the same thing as the General’s actions.
This is not an inappropriate comment, except it probably is.
What does all this supposed ‘information’ in this report tell us about, well, anything? Does it tell us that any of the information OUGHT to be ‘secret’, by whatever test? No. Does it even tell us any of it WAS IN FACT classified “Secret” or something like that AT THE RELEVANT TIME? No. Does it tell us who sent to the email containing the supposedly ‘secret’ information? No. Does it even tell us that the SoS at the time, HRC, DID anything with the supposed ‘secret’ information? No. Does it actually lead to a rational conclusion of wrong doing by HRC? No, of course not: it’s nowhere near that. By ANYone? Nope, not even that. Does it tell us how the various messages are distributed over the various levels of classification by whoever in the government? No. There’s a very low number of emails were being told hardly anything about here; what’s the total against which to judge that low number? Don’t know. Is there any quote from any expert here that actually helps us on any issue that’s at all newsworthy on … anything at all? No, there’s not.
I’m in that part of the nation that’s continuing to give no fx about her damn emails. I’d be pleased to learn from anyone in any other part of the nation that feels otherwise what exactly it is in this report that justifies me feeling otherwise.
Indeed. And nobody mentions that sensitive info is generally sent via diplomatic cable rather than email. Which, of course, would never be <ahem> wiki leaked.
This whole thing is a bs burger with a side of freedumb fries. That said, it plays into the pre-existing anti-HRC narrative so we’re stuck with it.
Tell you who could be weaker: so blah person with a ridiculously lefty mom and some foreign flightbynight dad who’s disreputable or dead or both, with a Moose-slam name like a Middle East terrorist or dictator or both, like “Muhammed” or “Hussein” or some completely disqualifying handle like that, who belongs to a Black Liberation Theology church and is friends with terrorists and thugs and criminals, and is all uppity and ooo ooo honor role when there’s no way of proving or disproving he’s just a minority guilt trip hire. That guy would have like no chance at all.
The problem was it getting in Novak’s column. Actually Richard Armitage was Novak’s primary source on June 13, 2003. Armitage admitted that in a CBS Interview on Sept 7, 2006, as well as other times. This is before any disclosure to Miller by Libby, which was a month later.
And Novak’s secondary source was shown to be Karl Rove. Rove admitted that too.
The person they were after was Cheney, since he was the one who wanted revenge on Wilson for telling the truth. But Libby’s lying prevented them from getting Cheney.
They could have easily prosecuted Armitage and Rove too, but they wanted Cheney. And Libby prevented that from happening, so they nailed him. Pity, would have preferred Cheney got nailed.
Maybe I’m missing something here but I don’t see how/why people on here are glossing over the fact that top secret materials were passed through her personal server. If it’s true it’s a gross violation of national security, that could have made select intel and operations vulnerable, and I’d imagine there would be both political and legal repercussions. Why aren’t folks worried about this? It doesn’t seem like a bullshit scandal to me, not that I for a moment put it passed Hill’s opponents to drum up plenty of bullshit.
too much foolishness on this thread for me to read through it all. the article states that the emails may have been classified or top secret at the time, the question is unanswered and being looked into. Therefore it is not ruled out. Which means this could potentially get serious.
There’s a lot of self-righteousness on this thread/site now.
