Discussion: Anti-Pelosi Faction Wants To Limit Her Time As Speaker To Four Years

Why is this necessary right now? Why not wait until the 4 years is up? We have our hands full with a lawless president and we don’t need this complication.

Someone needs to get the message to the anti-Pelosi people.

God no shit - are we sure they aren’t actually GOP?

Pelosi’s response should be, “Let’s all take a quick time out to read the constitution. Now, do you have the votes? No? Then get out of the way or I’ll put you on the committee managing negotiations with the moon.”

Oh, but it’s so embarrassing to suggest oneself . :relaxed:

I’m not opposed to party guidelines to limit time in any one specific leadership position, 3-4 terms seems about right. This would make grooming new talent a more intentional job requirement of leadership.

I think it’s stupid to go after this as a means to topple current leadership unless they want to put forward someone.

I think that we should be thinking seriously now about the transition from current leadership though.

I’d like someone to step up, and make intentions known for pursuit of the Majority leader position come 2020,

Not to mention the non-zero chance she’ll vacate the position within the next two years to assume the presidency.

How many of these people are GOP moles, pretending to be Democrats for years just to be able to eff things up in a situation like this?

Being out of power for 8 years is a factor too.

We have a very deep bench. We just elected a whole bunch of new Democrats to add to the great ones we have.

Perhaps we should call this the Fox effect - whenever a strong woman emerges in the Democratic Party - Pelosi, Clinton, Waters, Warren, Occasio-Cortez, etc. they are relentlessly attacked by the GOP and Fox News. Unfortunately there are Democrats either foolish enough to fall for this - or cynical enough to take advantage of this misogyny for their own political benefit.

These morons are attracted to some vapid & twisted corollary of the Field of Dreams - “If you build it, they will come”

“If you create a leadership vacancy - it will get filled” - these simpletons are unwilling or incapable of putting forward an alternative - and appear to be incapable of comprehending the absurdity of the situation.

They are like petulant children having a tantrum at the breakfast table screaming that they don’t want Corn Flakes for breakfast … and asked to state what they want instead of Corn Flakes … they sob with quivering lips and stammer out “I don’t know … I just want something else !!!”

I’m sorry but totally disagree with that kind of rule. Level the election playing field so a lousy leader can be unelected, yes. Make an effective leader look over her shoulder at another Gingrich narcissistic fascist asshole? Not so much.

Why not agree on a vote in four years, including Pelosi, if she cares, and take the best candidate then available ? Unreasonable to kill Pelosi’s chances already (and will weaken her negotiating position, the closer you get to the end of her reign).

Because then the misogynists win.

She stays until she chooses not to. She stays until dems are voted out, not likely with her at the realm.

I second the need to reveal the names of the opposition. Sloppy journalism sans names.

Well, heck, Pelosi might want to limit her time to four years. Who knows? Herding cats, or congress critters, is a grinding task. After a while, everyone needs to retire.

Just hope she mentors someone competent.

One would suppose that once she has mentored someone they will be competent.

Why do I have the feeling that these doods’ T-levels are going to peter out when they need to take on their male Republican “colleagues” after they’re sworn in?

Hmmm…

This is just public wanking. What leverage do they have? Why would Pelosi et. al. voluntarily limit future options? We’re sailing into troubled, uncharted waters and we don’t know what might happen. FFS, now is not the time for any Dem to go all Lieberman-y.

Why not agree on a vote in two years, as mandated by the constitution? And again two years after that as specified by the constitution? Also lets not get too cocky about the longevity of the house majority.
