I was struck at how unremarkable that aspect was, in the end. It’s not universal, God knows, I’m sure there are people who don’t quite believe it could happen. But there’s this whole growing swathe of people who can accept and navigate a more diverse world than generations ago would find familiar. They’re not all OMG when some barrier crumbles away. They’re usually a bit surprised the barrier lasted as long as it did. It’s just how the world is now, and I don’t think the tribalism in reaction is sustainable. Canute couldn’t keep the tide from coming in and Trump can’t either. Women outnumber men in college now, and nobody thinks a thing about it. It’s just how things are. A couple of generations ago, that wasn’t true at all. Gay marriage, environmentalism, all kinds of things are pretty much mainstream now. We just have to keep the world from blowing up for another year or two, and things might start trending sane again. Fingers crossed.

I watched most of it because it’s flat out fun and happy. I really enjoy hat watching as one who only wears the knitted go shovel the snow variety. This was a thoughtful blending of cultures and eras and damn, Meghan looked fantastic!

Oh, come on! I don’t wish this couple ill, any more than I would wish any other couple (spanky and Melania excepted) ill.
I do object to hereditary monarchy; and yes, we fought two wars to throw off the yoke that those inbred idiots had imposed on us to allow them to support their undeservedly extravagant lifestyle. Modern European monarchies, the ones that survived WW1, have become mere figureheads turning up at ceremonial events, with little more to do, and I say good.
I am glad to see that the British royalty has figured out that marrying their cousins isn’t the best option for their long term survival. I’m also glad that this woman’s entry into the fold is causing the anti-Wallis Simpson faction to spin in their graves. Otherwise this pairing has no more effect on my life than the vast majority of the thousands of other weddings that day.
This whole thing is just more useless celebrity gossip. It unfortunately exceeded the volume level at which I could tune it out.
I loved watching every minute of it. I love them both. I wish them all the happiness in the world.

Me, too, and some of the hats were a trip! I’m impressed that the Clooneys were among the lucky guests who were seated up in the chancel.
The dignity, beauty and grace of the event – and the perfection in its execution – were such a striking contrast to what we see in the White House every day. It made me long even more for the end of the Dotard regime than I usually do.
