Discussion: Alabama Bans 'Arthur' Episode With Gay Wedding

Its a fucking cartoon, dude. What part of regressive do you have a problem with? North, South, East or West…whenever one sees injustice and discrimination, one must speak up, even if its in your beloved southern domicile. Ignorance is not a local southern phenomenon in case you haven’t noticed, it just has a longer history of a particular kind of ignorance unfortunately.

Really - if someone hasn’t been to Palestine or Mexia in Louis Gohmert’s district then they don’t know what they are talking about.

So you were the brains behind Sunrise Semester with Paul Fistinyourface?

I knew there was a good reason to like you.

True that. I’m from Alabama. My whole sister and half sister started doing genealogical research. They now call each other “sister cousins” … and laugh. Might was well laugh, nothing they/we can do about it now.

My great grandmother and great grandfather met at a family reunion. No, I am not kidding. This was before cars and they didn’t get out much. or something

And I am 100% confident that my relatives don’t read TPM.

Can I get a Roll Tide and an Amen, brother cousin?

Reminds me of an incident in the 1950s when a children’s book showed a black rabbit and a white rabbit. Great consternation in the South, with one Alabama legislator saying, “Anyone can see that these rabbits are integrated!”

Some things never change.

Give the people what they want, and this is what Alabama wants:

Alabama is next to last on the list of best and worst states, according to the new rankings from US News and World Report.

The Best States ranking of states compiles thousands of data points to decide how well states are taking care of their citizens. Health care, education, the state’s economy, roads, bridges, internet and other infrastructure, public safety, the fiscal stability of state government, and opportunity are factors in determining which state is the ‘best’.

Alabama ranked 49th, beating Louisiana.

Alabama rankings:
23rd in the state’s fiscal stability
35th in natural environment
38th in infrastructure
45th in economy
45th in opportunity for residents
45th in crime and corrections
46th in healthcare
50th in education

What a waste of human ability.

So how much guts and backbone would it take to continue to work in public broadcasting, public education, or public infrastructure in such an environment?

A:

A fucking lot.

“In other news, Alabama re-institutes slavery and plans a secret assault on Fort Sumter.”

Yep - small government all up in your uterus. Doesn’t feel so small.

So what is the takeaway from the fact that Alabama (and conservatives elsewhere) are up in arms about the same-sex wedding, but don’t appear to give a damn about the inter-species union?

Thanks, Pence.

Inter-species miscegenation is a time-honored Alabama tradition…

But can you drown it?

I’m gonna leave this up here. Its in bad taste in so many possible ways that everybody gets to play the “what was he thinking?” game.
